Wave Editor Problem

Ever since I got into having VST's I've noticed that my wave editor program, specifically Creative Wave Studio, does a preliminary scan for anything that it considers a plug-in.

This process takes it about 3 to 4 minutes considering all the free plugs and demos I have loaded.

Unfortunately, I can't seem to find an option to tell it to not perform the scan.

I'd like to replace my wave editor with something a bit better that would not perform such a scan, or where such a scan could be disabled.

Are there any decent free wave editors or some that aren't too much $$$?
