Hi Guys
I have a question, looked in the Cubase SX 2.2 manual but didn't get any light...(must admit I am quite new to Cubase...9
i have 2 soundcards:
1) M-Audio DIO 2448 digitally connected to my Yamaha 03D mixer
2) an old Emagic Audiowerk8 card, inputs are connected to AUX 1 & 2 on the mixer...
I would like Cubase to PLAY tracks on the M-Audio but to RECORD using the inputs of the Audiowerk8
Is it possible to set up Cubase to use 2 cards? or does it just support one ?
thx

If you use an asio driver you can only use 1 type of card. Some manufacturers though let you stack multiple cards of the same type, like for example RME with their hdsp cards.
In the setup you're describing though, with different cards, that is unlikely to work (i.e. I don't think it has any chance to work but of course there might be a way that I'm no aware of).

yes, using ASIO drivers for both cards...

I presume that post meant 'Yes, I am using ASIO on both cards' rather than that being the solution.
I know of no way to get Cubase to use different ASIO drivers for input vs output.

Unless the two cards would use the same Master Word Clock it's virtually impossible for an audio application to stream anything depending on the same buffers somewhere along the line to them.

yes, i was meaning "i installaed asio for both cartds"...I also think it's impossible...
I'll have to buy a new audio card
thx anyway...

mmm...maybe it's something different, but Logic 5 allowed to using mpore tahn one card, one for asio driver and also others in "parallel"

You can only use one ASIO driver at a time, however, you can switch between ASIO drivers.
Some cards have other drivers on top of the ASIO ones though.

Then it probably resampled the buffers for all cards but one. Which leads to a reduced sound quality.autodafe wrote:stefancrs wrote:Unless the two cards would use the same Master Word Clock it's virtually impossible for an audio application to stream anything depending on the same buffers somewhere along the line to them.

Multiple cards that don't collaborate themselves is not possible using their own ASIO drivers. I've done it with CoolEditPro (uses the default windows MME drivers I think) and with Asio4All in "Einstein" mode.
You probably will loose a sample here and there, since the clocks won't tick at exactly the same time. But it does work with Asio4All!

ASIO4ALL definitely works to let you use 2 cards' ASIO drivers at once. And you might well get lower latency than was possible with the native drivers!
It might not be immediately obvious which ins and outs correspond to which card-at least in Live, they'll just be numbered, not named.

i thought to get two cards to work together they would need to be clocked together - ie an spdif connection would be needed between them
if you have got this then asio4all should work
if you have got this then asio4all should work
I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

If you alternate asio drivers you will switch between them and only have one active at a time. You do this at the Cubase level by selecting the active asio driver. One will be active at a time. This will work better if you have the outputs patched into a mixer so that you don't have to connect cables everytime you switch over.
