Is it possible to use convolution reverb as exiter/enhancer. If yes, where i can download or purchase impulses for this.

If this is dumb question and I am annoying somebody i am also awfully sorry. :P

I may suggest you to ask somebody to capture several impulses from BBE Sonic <something> device. As far as I know it does presense enhancement by using some kind of a strong phase shift which can be replicated by a convolution reverb processor.

Thank you.

but if i understand the convolution process correct, no extra harmonics/distortion can be added to the signal?

BBE's devices adds extra harmonics so try to get hold on SPL vitalizer impulses (if they exist), those boxes dont add anything extra, just phase shifting.

Hi

I read somewhere on a chatt, that impulses can be made of everything that does not include dynamic processing, like eg compression etc. Dont know if the statement was right? But I guess so. :)

So I guess the quality of the impulse depends on if the specific exiter process involves dynamic behaivors or not.

You will probably get something then, but the question is if it mimics the exiter or not?

The common notion of an exciter is "something that adds harmonics to a signal that weren't in there formerly". This can't be a linear time invariant process and thus can't be recreated by any convolution reverb, at least not those I know of.

you couldn't make an impulse of a pitch shifter, for example.

And not distortion either. Aphex for example uses a kind of distortion to "excite" the sound.

what's wrong with you people. always this redicilous obsession with exiters. get over it, men.

Of course, convolution cannot create harmonics. But exciter/enhancer is not always only about harmonics.

Let's see, I think I read an intervue with a technican that was involved when Motown was the top of the pops. He described the exiter making, before
Aphex was around, as taking the high frequency material and compress the guts out of it. Then add it with a very subtile touch to the original sound source. :)

I think that is what Aphex did in there products
in the beginning. Or perhaps I am totally wrong??? :hihi:

totally wrong or not I'm going to try that out to hear what happens

Sounds like a nice technique!
Perhaps you can tell us what mics and compressors they used for their drums! :D

BobYordan, Voxformer's presence module basically does that.
