Hello. I am interested in opening up a wav sample that I have, applying a vst effect (typically a bitcrusher or distortion) and then saving the sample as a wav file, that includes the revised/processed sound. Is there any way to do this via a freeware application? Again... open sample, apply vst effects and then save sample with the revised sound. how can i do this? thanks

I think MiniHost from www.tobybear.de can do this - it's donationware. Note that you can only have one plugin loaded at a time. If you want to do more complex stuff you might want to look at EnergyXT. It's not free but for the features it's very inexpensive at 39 euro.

The best solution if you can afford it would be Wavelab from Steinberg, inventors of VST. Wavelab is a top quality full featured wave editor. It is designed to do exactly what you asked for.
