I liked welcome to jamrock - kinda old school soundsystem style, but the rest of the lp I found kinda dissapointing.
I've often wondered what kind of music Bob would have been making if he hadn't tragically died.
As to the questions on rawness & how big a star he would be, there's still some fairly raw stuff coming from jamaica, but you have to dig deep past all the dancehall crap (do'n like it) - I kinda like a lot of capleton's stuff now he's gone all 'jah rastafari' - but Bob's stuff seemed a product of his times also, bit like early Burning Spear - i'd like to think that Bob wouldn't have gone all watery & weak like Burning spear did.

i've got a few lps by Burning Spear, i guess they are early ones, i actually thought Bob Marley was a more commercial sounding version of Burning Spear, did BS go commercial? i've seen BS once and it really held up with the dubby echo and horn parts, really enjoyed it...i saw a BM video doing "Stir It Up" and it gave the good raw feel of the music, but i admit i don't know his early stuff at all...i love the early ska stuff, "The Harder They Come" soundtrack, the heavy dub stuff, what i pick up here and there (the midwest is not the epicenter of reggae ya know), but it's hard to not think of Bob Marley as the only reggae artist most people know, an the hero of milions of weed-puffing, dreadlocked, whiteboy, Dead-Heads the world over....
