I had a lot of problems early on. Many were fixed when I did a bios update for my CDRW. I don't have any Ensoniq CD's but I can do bulk translations of EMU CD's. It does crash and burn when I try converting some Roland CD's to other formats. And those Roland samples that it does translate are bloated and unusable. It usually expands a 300 meg Roland CD into 2.5 Gig in another format.7thsense wrote:I find that it crashes when trying to do bulk translations from ensoniq CDrs. Wanting to know if others have this problem?
Anybody use chicken systems Translator??

I've only used the free version to do translations of Akai S5000/S6000 formats to Kontakt and it's done extremely well. I'm not sure it translates things like phaser effects correctly, but that's simple to adjust in Kontakt.
But the program itself has never bombed on me.

Garth runs a small shop and he has taken on work for Sonic Reality in the past (the UFO converter) and now he is the converter guru for Kontakt 2. I expect he will be very busy with getting translations to work in Kontakt properly.
I think he is an upright guy but I fear he has overextended himself the past 2-3 years. Translator users should get the benefit of his work for NI but I suspect the road to proper conversions in certain formats will continue to be a long one with frequent bumps.

I have nothing but praise for Chicken Sys.
From my experience they respond to all bug reports personally and endevour to get them fixed asap.
If you do not tell them about your bug and very few or no other users are experiencing the same problems its not going to get fixed is it.
It would be refreshing if more of the developers had this approach.

Yes, I think I was polite. Here's my deleted post to Chicken Systems Translator Forum:
>Garth, Please help me!
>Soundfont edition, build 87 won't translate Giga, Kontakt, Halion, Wav,
>and Aiff formats. Giga works sometimes but only translates part of the samples.
>The wave splitting function doesn't seem to work either. I have sent bug
>reports.
>If (when) there is a new build, please make it possible for me to get it.
>I have a purchased program, but the web update won't let me access updates.
>Also, when can I expect the program CD and manual. I ordered on 3/10/05
>and paid $9 for shipping.
>I really need some help here - I can't get any work done with Translator.
>It did work with my old Ensoniq EFA's and some of my Gigas.
>Best Regards, Matt Miles
I've submitted bug reports to Chicken Systems, which he has either deleted or marked as fixed. Unfortunately, they are not fixed. After deleting my post, he told me in an email he would send me an updated version on 4/18. It's 4/20 and I still don't have a fully working program. All I want is for it to do what it was advertised as doing when I bought it on 3/10.
I'm sure Garth is a nice, hard working guy. I'm just really disappointed that the Translator program doesn't work like he says it will on his website.
I've tried CDXtract and Extreme Sample Convertor, and they don't seem to work too well either with some of the formats I want to convert.
I've bought other things from Chicken Systems and not had problems (other than slow delivery).
Maybe he will fix Translator soon. In the meantime all I can do is wait and see.

Hm, I agree that post didn't warrant deleting. Looks perfectly reasonable to me.
I don't know why the trouble, but certainly hope everything does work out for you. It's a complex program, I can imagine how hard it must be making all those combinations of input and output work well.

It might be worth giving Awave Studio a try. I have it and recommend it. Excellent personal support too.

I posted a comment wondering why the promised MAC compatibility was so far behind the PC version and it was deleted quickly too. I understand that he pays for the forum space, but his response to everything is..."It's coming soon"
Then he told me to use the PC version. That's like telling an artist who bought a set of acrylic paints that was missing some of the colors that the oil set had to 'Use the oil version'. Yeah right, whatever
I will probably be switching to www.cdxtract.com product.

Looks very interesting - problem is, no purchase info for it...that page seems to be down.

Miles knows that no refund was offered to him in any way relating to what he says or when he says it.
I would never do anything like that. You are simply being vindictive at this point.

edit - just did a search for the sample formats you posted that this software cannot handle-- I guess I can see your point - there doesn't seem to be something else that claims to do these things you ask of it....... lots of big name companies touting the worth of this chicken systems translator....
