Filter placement

ive looked thru the forum and maybe missed it along the line..maybe even in the manual..but im stuck..
i have an entire guitar track and only want to place a filter in a small section of that track not over the entire piece how do i do this?

a couple of options here:

1. You could put the filter on the whole track and automate the wet output of the filter for the section you want; leaving it at 0 dB for everywhere but the section you want effected.

2. You can split the track into multiple clips and drop the filter directly onto the clip section of interest - one problem here is that the filter will only last as long as the clip is in time. If it's a delay or reverb effect, and you have audio hard against the end of the clip, the effect will truncate at the end of the clip as well.

3. Following along the lines of #2, drop a send filter on the clip of interest, with the return on it's own track followed by the filter you want to apply - this will allow the filter effect to go through all the necessary time effects needed.

There are probably 5 other ways to do this - some involving rack filters, etc. These were the ways I thought of off the top of my head.

Or you could create a new track, put just the small section on the new track, and drop your filter there.

thanks for the info! i ended up doing what you suggested in 1 scott and worked out fine. quick and easy.
