As some of you who know me here may remember, i basically decidied to jack in making music some time ago when i realised it wasn't my calling. I have since focused on DJing and i love it.

This kind of live improv stuff appeals to me a lot, it just looks like pure unadulterated fun instead of sitting in front of a sequencer and "producing" a track. If i can do this kind of thing with reaktor then i might start saving!!

Anyway this guy is brilliant, have a watch.

First time I saw that video a while back, I was pretty inspired, too. Definately cool stuff. After listening to Exile's music for a bit, I found that his music isn't for me (and I do like some dnb), but that doesn't matter. It's the concept that's cool. Really cool.

That vid was really awesome. I think though if you're not good, a live improv show can be a disaster so i think most producers opt out on going this route. i swear NI has to release a piece of software just for this.

Yeah, not to rain on your guy's parade but I thought that the guy was a pretentious f**k and his music was a load of crap. It sounded like a bunch of random noodling around. Hasn't Squarepusher been doing the same sort of shit, except with much better results, for the last 10 years or so?

The toys were kind of fun I must admit.

I thought this Exile guy was doing Jungle. I can never keep the absurd variety of Techno genres straight.

His heart's in the right place, from a DIY standpoint.

But he reminds me of a mad scientist who had a great idea five years ago but by the time he completed the project, the idea is obsolete.

I am afraid that the musical genre as he replicates himself is... well, stale. Not to say there couldn't be "neo-jungle" or "post-glitch", there can and should be, but he's not making it, even with that well conceived rig.

However, as a means to play the genre live, it would be a lot of fun.

Great example of the kinds of stuff you can do with Reaktor.

I -wish- Native Instruments would make Reaktor able to export ensembles that could be played with a stand-alone freeware ensemble loader... like SAVIensemble or something.

You wouldn't be able to change anything about the ensemble, but you could still use it.

That would make people like me more privy to want to create ensembles, insofar as I could share them with people who don't own full blown versions of Reaktor.

Squarepusher did more impressive stuff even when he used hardware (especially when he would play bass guitar and a crazy bassy screaming demon voice thing would come out). But still, this exhile thing is very impressive. I like when he programs the saw bass and then swithces the sub bass ot do the same recorded bassline, and when he f**ks with his recorded voice.

DnB refers to the faster, more intense stuff and is typically darker. Jungle covers the reggae-related avant-garde stuff.

This video makes me want to try making music again
