Unfortunately just 3 USB slots, which isn't that great considering that I often have 2 dongles and 1 mouse attached.
this has been a life saver for me, and look at the price

Yeah, it's all good, but I'm gonna use the cardbus slot for my audio interface(s)...

And no arke, I defenitely won't get anything with the "Medion" label on it! Shittiest PCs ever.

Yep. Most ACERs integrate the video card with the CPU.

Yeah, seems like, allready noticed. But the last two ones I mentioned come with a dedicated ATI Radeon.

I had a feeling you'd say that, I did look into the same thing but I didn't really find a cardbus soundcard that gave the features I wanted...but that was long before I knew of this thing. You might want to weigh the pros and cons some, though I will admit even a mobile card on the road could present issues. You really don't need more things sprawling out in front of you... :)

Btw, as far as CPU goes, I would advise you to get a centrino.

Centrinos are tried and tested and they run extremely cool.

I couldn't find a cardbus audio card with the features I wanted either.
I'd love some selfpowered small mic/inst preamp and a MIDI in - you get all that with firewire, but latencies over PCMCIA are way smaller.
Best bet so far for me seems to be an Indigo I/O along with some small USB MIDI keyboard. Wouldn't mind a pre though... but there's just nothing that'd do a proper job for my purposes.

been checking out the asus z71v. seems like a good fit or me.

but what about the asus z70va? any reason to prefer one over the other wrt audio? i notice it uses a radeon x700 video card rather than the nvidia 6600 in the z71v. any reason to prefer one over the other?

any other major differences i may have missed for use with audio?

I you get a usb card with direct monitor like the edirols latency doesn't matter when recording audio. I run my buffer at 19ms because it doesn't matter, there is no latency. Direct monitor works through both the headphones and the analog outputs on my UA5.

Sure, but I *want* to monitor through software. Using guitar amp sims etc...

My ua5 has a switch to enable or disable it right on the face.....I hear yah though, I'm quite sensitive to latency as well...of course I didn't take into account needing a POD (or similar) as well, starts to make it less portable...:)
