This is my favorite thread in a long time.

Post

I find this thread pretty pointless. Why should we try to tell someone they shouldn't strive for better tools? Why should we argue? Everyone has their viewpoint, why do some of you feel you need to impose it on others? If I want Absynth specifically to help me make ambience even though I have Reason 3, well then don't try to convince me I don't need it.

Thanks for that.

So that we can crush your pathetic ego and remark on your microscopic penis and utter lack of sex appeal. This allows us to highlight our intrinsic superiority, which is so utterly l33t you will never even begin to be able to comprehend it...
Why should we argue?
Shut the f**k up arsehole.

Because you're WRONG. Moron.

Only a retard would need to do that. Please take a number and join the queue. Your clue will be handed to you after several rounds of witty and insightful insults from BONES.

Happy new year to everybody else! Unfortunately I'm now in the recovery stage, not the celebratory stage. :help:

Because quotes like this:
kuniklo wrote:
I think you can look at this as a question of "can I make sound X with this tool" or "can I have effect X on the listener with this tool". The answer to the first question will often be no because you can't generally exactly recreate one instrument's sound with another. The answer to the second question is often yes, though, I think, since there are many ways to achieve any particular sonic effect.
and this:
Shane Sanders wrote: Being an artist for me has always been about making stuff exist that didn't moments before. Some days you use a pencil, some days you use a computer, but the one constant is "me" and some goofy synchronicity between intention and recognition.
and this:
JerGoertz wrote:
I think we should distinguish between the ideas of "An artist can create something artistic using limited tools" and "An artist can create any specific something using limited tools". I agree with the first but don't categorically agree with the second.

I think it's telling that the artists who are capable of creating something using just about anything, often do so.
ARE f**king PRICELESS!!!

Many years ago, I recall seeing Dave Sanborn and David Spinozza on some late night cable music talk show with a few other notable and well respected musicians. The show's host handed plastic toy instruments to each of the players to prove the point that it was not the tools so much as the talent that makes good music. As expected, the ensemble performed remarkably, thus proving the point.

Anyone else see or remember the details of this show?
