I need a good widener or mono to stereo vst... mainly for samples, drums, bits & pieces... I know one way to achieve this without using reverbs is too offset by milli seconds and pan hard left & right and keeping the mono sound in the center also... but, I'm wondering is there a vst that will simplify all this in one handy preset?

PSP StereoPack is always given pretty high grades for stereo widening, pseudo-stereo and all that...

Interface is nice too.

For simple and free, mda stereo is outstanding; still my favourite.

Elevayta Wide Boy is particularly good at Mono to Stereo. Elevayta Wider Boy Pro for best results on Mono or Stereo to Stereo

A nice chorus?

I also recommend WiderBoyPro.
I have good experience with it and NO phase problems at all from the beginning.
I use it mainly for widening acoustic guitar.
A really good plugin and a fair price.

Another good option (especially for my needs on drums) is the "Multiband Stereo Imaging" in iZotope Ozone3
Pro:
- The only (split-by-frequency) Multiband Widener I know so far
Con:
- Expensive for just using it as Widener.
- You have to be careful not to get phase problems

Not sure the extra dynamic phasing effect introduced by a chorus effect is what he was really after though.

You may want to try Blue Cat's Widening Parametr' EQ (mid/side parametric equalizer): it's particularly efficient on drums, which have a large frequency response. Boosting high frequencies on the sides and low frequencies in the center will widen you drums sound without disturbing the ear (kick will stay in the center and cymbals will sound on the sides).

It's available on http://software.bluecatonline.org and you can read some more information about mid/side processing here

Thanks for that tip... It sounds useful. :)

I find Voxengo StereoTouch and Elevayta Wide Boy great freebies. Although nothing was as versatile as the Stereo Enhancer thing in the Waves Native Power Pack. Haven't used that in years.
