ABBA was an unique concept and back in the mid 70s, early 80s they had to take a lot of crap from the world around them. Being dressed in glittery clothes and not singing about revolutions, the poor people of the world or starving kids in Biafra was totally NOT politically correct.

They were four very talented persons, none of them doing drugs or having depraved tastes of any kind. They were in total control of what they did, no one cheated them or stole their money and from day one they invested their cash into their own studio and into different types of business such as the property market and investment companies.

By investing in an intelligent way and not putting all their cash up their noses plus the fact that many of their songs where number ones around the world and still are selling in the millions they all came out of ABBA with loads of money.

I.e. once the carreer was over they all where and still are filthy rich, one of the big reasons we will never see them tour again. They still make loads of money from their old recordings and Björn and Benny are making loads of cash also from their musicals, such as Chess and Mamma Mia (even though Mamma Mia is not even their own production).

ABBAs songs are very cleverly done, many are containing two choruses, most of us are having troubles writing one hook, they easily wrote two, plus a very memorable and catchy verse. It's not without reason ABBA is still played on the radio and there are very few parties or weddings where at least one ABBA song is not played. The number of songs with a hit potential they wrote has very few equilvalents, maybe Beatles, but except for them?

I was never a big fan of them back in the days, but today I really appreciate the work behind the music. Plus thay had the best recording studio in the world at the time (Polar studios, too bad that it had to close last year) and Agnetas and Annefrids voices complemented each other really well. The recordings are timeless, which cannot be said of most music recorded from the mid 80s and forward.

I too am a Neil Diamond fan. Solitary Man is one of my fave songs from that era. His latest album has garnered some good reviews...

The new one is very good, stripped down a lot of the googahs he's proffered since the late 70s. Except for the crappy Love is We song, just tacky that one.
