really, I have to ask...in fact I don't know why I haven't before. Please remember I was adopted at birth and unlike my sister (non-blood sister) I did not seek out my real family, nor will I.

I often say I didn't choose music, it chose me...but is that accurate? Perhaps I had the gene all along. My son is drawn to music, but only sings and programs music right now (and he's 25) he and my grand daughter are all the bloodline I have to gauge by...so I haven't a clue...I know my father couldn't carry a tune if it had a handle and straps...so I leave it to you...

but really, I have a brother whom I didn't meet til I was 35...
we talk the same talk, walk and most everything else except the creative thingy...

"A gene" is far too simple. :-) There might be a genetic component to some kinds of creativity. Or it might just be that artistically inclined families are likely to encourage artistic interest in children.

But to answer you simply: Yes, there is an artistic Gene.

(Under NO circumstances will I consider Gene Simmons to be "artistic.")

yeah but meffy, I was raised by an extremely critical thinker and phylis from mary tyler moore (really, that's how my mother was then)...not an artistic influence...hell my mother still hasn't forgiven me for turning down westpoint...but for me it's a drive...

Genetic traits often skip a generation. My short-haired black-and-white mother cat had a kitten that looks exactly like her... and another that appears to be one of those exotic long-haired Siamese-looking breeds. Probably looks like grand-dad or great-grandma.

And sometimes it's just one of those things. :-)

i think it's just about letin yerself be an artist. the snobbery of others convinces some they just don't have it

there are also ppl out there who just don't want it

I surely have thought the same, which I wonder what that means for Relena and the next one on the way.

I'll be honest, I often feel that being adopted makes sure you'll spend your whole life in wrong place at the wrong time. So I then wonder if an artistic escape is natural because of the diversity in artists...but did I have choice....these things grow more interesting as my son is grown and for the first time I'm seeing a second generation in my bloodline...

i think youve hit the nail on the head there hink,its not a gene its a thought process.most creative people of any form be it painting,dancing,musicing,sculpting and writing they all have one thing in common,its about escapism.
