FL6 is Extremely Frustrating

Right now, my host of choice is obsolete. Do to 3 different problems, FL Studio 6 is completely unusable on my computer, despite FL Studio 5 working absolutely flawlessly.

The reason for this thread is so I can see if any other people are experiencing these problems as well, and also to see if someone could please help me (I have 2 threads going at looptalk technical forum but am doing this as well after bumping them both twice).

Nothing in my computer has changed at all since installing FL5. No component changes. In fact, the only things I've installed since FL5 was ASIO4ALL 2.6, Toxic, Wusikstation, and the game Descent III (which is f**king badass). FL5 worked fine with A4A and the said synths and game.

- Problem Number one: Stack overflow -

At random times, whether it be me sitting quietly, trying to render a track to audio, or trying to open a project, I get this silly guy:
Image
On which I click "OK", getting this window:
Image
Except when I click "OK" on this one, it reappears. I could click "OK" forever. This means I lose any unsaved work as I have to execute FL Studio via ctrl-alt-delete.

This happens most often when opening project files (about 1 out of every 5th project). Other than that there is no apparent tendency. On one [very important] project, this happens to me every time i render. I can not render it to audio.

- Problem 2: Blips/buzzes in playback -

This also happens at random times during playback and when i press play in a project for the first time, but also always happens when I stop all sound via hitting the stop button a second time. Here is a real-time recording of it happening. The recording is first of me stopping all audio, and then moving windows around. This happens with ANY (and I mean ANY) soundcard, driver, and FL playback configuration.

- Problem 3: FL Studio magically disappearing -

This happens as often as the stack error when opening projects. Every 5-10 projects I try to load, FL Studio just executes without a trace. That's the only time it happens though.

Despite me using the term "VERY frustrated" on loop talk to describe my feelings on the subject, "f**king PISSED" is more accurate, though i dont say so on looptalk as i know how much work the IL crew do and I appreciate it so I try not to get snooty.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

chase can you give us again your specs...and run the dignostic tool for us (just post the results) then we won't be guessing quite as much...:)

hehe my favorite is when they post that little video of using the diagnostic tool :dog:

Anyways, I've posted my diagnostic in these looptalk threads:

The stack is an area of memory the program uses during execution to store "where it has been" - that means, if its doing something and wants to do something else, it jumps to what it wants to do but remembers where to come back to when this is done - thats the stack. When the stack runs out, thats what happens.

Right Click "My Computer", then go on Manage, and look in the Application Logs for entries containing FL.exe or FLEngine.dll, and paste the contents here. Also, while FL is loaded up (and just before you render), go onto the Task manager. Paste here the memory consumption of FL (and I mean the entire size, not whats just used - that means, tell it to show the column "size of virtual memory"). Also paste total memory consumption (at the bottom of the task manager, as well as how much memory your computer has, and the virtual memory settings (My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced -> System Performance -> ... something).

Some other audio apps will Hi-Jack the audio driver, f**king it up. Try uninstalling ASIO4ALL, then reinstalling it. This might also have something to do with the above.

This happens as often as the stack error when opening projects. Every 5-10 projects I try to load, FL Studio just executes without a trace. That's the only time it happens though.
For now, lets just treat this as a subset of Problem #1.

f**k me, it works now! Anyway... sorry i can't help you with your problem but here's some free advice:

Wait for the next update. With my experience with FL, it always takes an update or two to be worth installing.

I haven't even bothered installing the latest one yet (Only because i'm in the middle of a major system upgrade, but nonetheless...)

Either that or re-install your OS because you seem to be the only person on earth getting that stack overflow message...

I posted them into the tech support forum. I thought it was part of loop talk?

chase I know this may sound lame....really forgive me, but why don't you uninstall it...then instead of instaling over FL5 create an FL6 folder for it....that's how my set up is...why should this help? it probably shouldn't...but face it stranger things have happened...;)

arke wrote:Aah, yes, Cubarse. Did you install it _after_ installing ASIO4ALL?
No i installed cubasis to rape it of all the plug-ins it comes with. That was even before FL5 which worked fine.

Post

oh, one other thing- try using an older version of ASIO4ALL. Thats what i did when i had problems with ASIO4ALL. I don't have any problems anymore tho because i baught a decent soundcard :)

Ooopts sorry ...

Ive tried. The first time i installed FL 6 was in it's own folder, but I got this problem and after trying everything I installed it over FL5 (i dont know why. though it would help for some reason).

I've re-installed FL6 and ASIO4ALL multiple times. BTW, it happens with 2 ASIO drivers that come with cubasis as well.

Post

And maybe uninstall Cubasis, Steinberg hosts like to hi-jack and rape audio drivers. Friend of mine had the same problem with Cubarse..

I will if this doesnt get sorted out. I could probably use it anyway. Not that I've had any other problems but I've been using this install of XP for about 2 years and Ive been raised to install it once a year.
