I wonder if that renders street thugs/gangsters/drug dealers/soldiers/firefighters/police officers etc etc more spiritually adept than the rest of us? Probably not.

Anyways, I listen to Black and Death Metal si my music has no reflection of any spritual belief I may harbour, otherwise I'd be burning the odd church and quenching an eternal bloodlust

My music is the closest thing to spirituality I feel, and it's not spiritual at all. My personal path to be a better man is to keep away from religion/spirituality.

Thanks Riley, The recent thread about is music genetic got me to thinking about this one. Thinking about Fripp and his self-professed lack of talent was part of it. The fact that he is heavy into spirituality is another part. It also reminds me of Phil Keaggy who was Hendrix's fave guitar player back in the day. Now he plays Christian music as opposed to the psychedelic stuff he did with Glass Harp.(I love that stuff too!) I am rambling now. Off to bed .

I saw Phil with 2nd Chapter of Acts back in 1983..I think. He did a guitar solo and this dude in a really big audience stood up and started speaking in tongues afterwards!....Phil really is that good. My girlfriend bought a cassette....a cassette!! Of Phil Keaggy's because she couldn't get what she wanted on CD. This was about 3 months ago anyway she played it for me after I had'nt listened to him for 15 years or so and Man!!! That dude can play!! wow! He was doing that Alan Holdsworth, Eddie VanHalen kinda stuff in a very beautiful way. Except I think he predates them.

I'll have to checkout Glass Harp.

Hink, some people would say that when you are really spiritual about something, any kind of idea of doing something spiritual or special in any way dissapears, leaving us with only doing what we do anyway, just very deep, bare and true.

I definitely have to agree with this. I know this is a very personal subject and one many people may not want to share on public forums. Is anyone familiar with the spiritual practices that Eric Johnson, Santana and (maybe ) Steve Vai subscribe to? It has something to do with a certain Master Singh... One of their beliefs, I think, is that the "Word" that "God" used to create physical reality was actually singing and not speaking. So the first "emanation" was musical sound. They have this cool meditation where you follow the sound in your ear back to the source of all sound. I have met Eric and he is very spiritual. He wouldn't say so though....
Fripp, on the other hand, follows the teachings of Gurdjieff. Intense in a whole different way..."The Fourth Way" for you Ouspensky fans out there.

Didn't knew about Eric Johnson, interesting. Can you point me to some kind of interview or anything else? Vai was always talking openly about spirituality, having concept albums about it. Their belief is nothing exotic though... Sound is vibration, wave, state of energy, very common approach in the east, and if anything else, most of people did heard Ohm sound chanting, another example. There are meditations working with sound instead with usual koans, and they also give interesting experiences. Btw, sorry if I'm wrong, but it looked like you identify as similar two different things. Gurdjieff teaching (that is very close to some Tantra teachings) is different than "fourth way" teaching that is more mental in its approach, and Gurdjieff has criticised work Uspenski indirectly at few occasions, because taking just a few aspects of his own teaching out of contest and leaving out other aspects, thus making it unbalanced.

What I mean is that if you have nothing better to do with your time than think aobut krap like that, it is because you have it way too easy. Meanwhile, teh rest of the world is expending the greater amount of it's individual thought processes just trying to stay alive. I would hope never to feel so comfortable in life that I would have time for that kind of idle speculation.
