Cubase/Kontakt problem unmentioned in the manual/tutorial dv

I have had no problems with cubase sx 3 until today- I have my midi drum pattern outted to kontakt 2 with 4 different drum parts loaded- snare, kick, hats and ride. I am trying to increase the volume of the kick and snare which is being drowned out by the hats. I turn up the fader and adjust the panning to the desired level- and when I press play they quickly jump back to the default level. I have read everything in the manual under automation but have found zero.

Sounds like you have some midi control codes (CCs) that have been recorded, affecting volume. Try editing the midi and remove them.

Woah sounds too high tech for this ex cool edit user.
I just got a job in a small studio and have too learn this program in a small amount of time- I think they've underestimated the compexity. Either that or me...
How do I edit midi control codes?

I think I figured it out- list editor- remove note display- select all then delete. Now it works fine. Thanks without your help I would have been wrapping up my cubase box as a late xmas present.
