So I finally got kontakt (wahey..), liking its vast features

just spent a while mapping a piano to it from some nice .aiff samples ( here if you want them - http://theremin.music.uiowa.edu/MIS.html )

i compose a short piano piece, sounds lovely, but when i come to render, the rendered file does not hold my note releases correctly. whats more, halfway through the (only 40 second) song the notes kind of die out, slowly dwindling to silence.

i wondered perhaps a polyphony problem but i cant see anything to suggest that - any clues? happened to anyone else?

I would ask this is loop talk reflex can probably help you more...:)
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Have you fiddled with the settings in the FL plugin wrapper window menu (top left) - I forget exact names , but there are things something like 'plugin render notify'.
Its a stab in the dark, but try these to see if they help. By default everything is off, maybe you have some switched on?
