Is really a sham
you don't make them look bad, you look bad...that Hi-Jack dude laughed at my music and called me a joke...in the three days (new years eve, Sunday and Monday) instead of the few hits from KVR (at this time with no new songs I get a couple hits a day here, mostly a dozen or so) I have had a total of over 300 hits in those days just from here...it's pushed Sleeping ginat to number 3 in the instrumental rock charts and 34 in rock...though I dont put much stock into the charts I do appreciate the high hit count and the elevated that downloads.

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

But at the same time I don't like it when I don't get some constructive criticism at least. Yeah there is a difference between being insulting and being critical, but this line might be different between people.

yeah, you're right Jim - although I often listen to music that I couldn't/wouldn't make, I often don't know what to say other than I did/didn't like it...usually I just keep me gob shut.
It annoys me when people say my stuff is crap without telling me why or how to do it better...I guess we're all here to learn to some extent.

with me I listen to what people say a lot (but it's easy to spot the haters) but I always have a list of concerns "did that scale wotk? Did the bridge fit?" and also compare that to what people say....but this guy was unsolcitated , I didn't ask him to check out my music....but then I appreciate those who do listen without my askibg as they often give good advice, or make constructive criticism...some though listen with a chip on their shoulder like this guy...his goal was to hurt me....I walk away smiling and he walks away angry and acting like a jerk.., I guess that backfired, but when you pressume to be able to judge others, it seems it often does...Hunter wrote:But at the same time I don't like it when I don't get some constructive criticism at least. there is a difference.. a huge difference between the two.
Cypher has pointed it out!
"this is garbage.. you call this music?"
versus
"I find the melody is grating, the choice of voice for your lead too harsh, the drums are too low and a bit too boomy, and the bass drum too busy and distracting"
I'd be bummed by either... but at least I'd KNOW what they meant with the latter..

Tbh, this makes me more likely to check out a track in the cafe. Whereas 'this is a competent example of genre X but you need to improve this that and the other' kind of puts me off...VitaminD wrote: "this is garbage.. you call this music?"

i learned more from insults then from critism because i had to figure out myself what i am/was doing wrong.
if you cant figure it out yourself you will never make it anyway.. yep.

Meh.. I've begun to do what Donovan recommended, and that was to seperate myself from my audience and make the music for me.
I don't get many comments anyways... I mean.. my latest album... not one f**king comment. You'd think 250 odd people... one of them would say something, even if it's "YOURZ TEH COONT LOLZ LOLZ! ..... :shrugs:

After all, do we do this for other people to ooh and ah over, or do we do this to express ourselves?
