Personally, I don't think that would fit, either.
I don't think it matters, though. Many albums mentioned (including The Mars Volta's... wasn't that one done in '04, by the way?) don't sound "now" because they sound "timeless".

yes and no...

'nothings shocking' from janes addiction (and doolittle from the pixies, and the queen is dead and unknown pleasures and and and and....) all sounded timeless when i was falling in love with them

and they are timeless, and still sound so today

'timeless' from Goldie was timeless when it came out, and it still is a timeless track

but at the same time they all sound like the timeframe they were recorded in. i think this can be true for an album with a 'timeless' uniqueness about the sound of the music - it's the influences and referential points and recording and engineering technology that contribute to the timeliness of the album

well you can't make something timeless just by giving it the name 'timeless' as a title. in goldie's case however, his ego was correct.

i wrote a piece called timeless once as well - it turns out my ego was completely wrong

I think I only bought one album from 2005 last year

It was System of a Down - Mezmerize. Those fella's have got a mean ear for a tune.

lol the truth is i could, it was mixed down to cassette from a tascam 4 track about 10 years ago. it features me playing the bassoon. no shit. only time i've ever played a bassoon.

i'd have to find the cassette though, which might be a pain, i haven't seen ANY cassettes around here in ages...
