DnB refers to the faster, more intense stuff and is typically darker. Jungle covers the reggae-related avant-garde stuff.
I always thought that it was all called jungle when it evolved out of ardcore, but then got renamed drum and bass a bit later.

Is there a committee or something? The way this genre stuff gets "named" and somehow people all over the world start to agree on the names, is a phenomenon worthy of a research paper.

I watched the video, which is evidently an advert for Reaktor5. But does he show anything that can be done in R5 that can't be done on pretty much any host?

Well it looked liek an interesting video but the player is a piece of shit, don't accidentally hit the resolution butons once you've loaded it or you'll have to reload the whole thing which I can't be arsed doing so nevermind I'll just have to imagine what I've missed

Interestingly, in the case of jungle, yes. It's probably the most mocked thing in the jungle scene ever.

I hate this sort of music, but I found the video very interesting. I don't know why so many people are down on him ? He's got a nice little rig and is showing you how he uses it. He doesn't claim to be a genius or to be creating the next genre of modern music - give him a break !

Some of his live ergonomics such as channel assignment and "panic button bounce" are quite clever, and his final "mash up" shows good skill at real-time audio manipulation imho.

I'd hate someone to video me at work. The show would run for about four hours with zooms of me repeatedly adjusting a single knob.

Apologies opia, i just read this back and i may have seriously over-reacted to a fairly straightforward observation you made.

To summarise my main point after watching this video: Reaktor 5 - niiiiice!!

I liked the video. It was good at showing how elaborate MIDI set-ups might work with Reaktor. But, was there anything there that couldn't be done with Live or FL?

The thing that makes me thing "no, it can't be done" is that i've nevr seen or heard anyone do it with those, or any other hosts.

Certainly those hosts(live in particular i suspect) would be good for PROGRAMMING music that sounds like that, but i never saw anything in live when i was using it that could do exactly what he was doingg.

But then, frankly, what the f**k do i know!

This video makes me want to try making music again
