Any cheap alternative to Stormdrum percussion?

I'm looking for a powerful percussion set in the likes of EastWest Stormdrum. I just need one powerful tribal/war/celtic kind of patch, so Stormdrum is too huge and expensive for me. Any ideas for cheap or free alternatives to stormdrum?
What I'm looking for is not just oneshot samples. I need a multisampled percussion set because it needs to be expressive when played on a midi-drumkit.
Something like the very first example in this demo: http://www.soundsonline.com/cd_mp3_demos/173755.mp3
Thanks.

Not sure exactly what your looking for but the free East-West sampler CD has some nice StormDrum hits represented very well(large Japanese drums) as well as some decent rythm's in the intakt section.

Doru Malaia's excellent ethnic instruments CD sounds like what you're looking for. The samples aren't formatted (just WAV) but there are multiple articulations, velocities, etc. so you should be able to easily program patches in the sampler of your choice. More material than stormdrum too.

Indeed, Doru's CD is the way to go - $29. You'll be able to reproduce the sounds in the demo easily. For ease of use, I run my V-drums thru Loopazoid (free),assign different sounds or variations to each pad, and bang away.

I was under the impression that Doru's ethnic CD was purely oneshot samples? For this project I really need a decent amount of velocity layering.

I'm not sure you're gonna find that for much cheaper than Stormdrum. I've been looking for awhile for less expensive multisampled percussion. Manytone
has a nice multisampled (4-layered) KIT with some percussion, but I doubt it will have what you need. Good luck and if you find something, please let me know.

I doubt that this will cover everything you need but try the G-town samples. After all, they are free

The free East-West sampler CD might be worth the $10 for shipping. It may do what you want.

Well, no, there ARE velocity layers and multiple articulations. It's just not programmed - you have to put your own patches together. This is what I said before.Dr. Feelgood wrote:I was under the impression that Doru's ethnic CD was purely oneshot samples? For this project I really need a decent amount of velocity layering.

Doru's samples are really rich. On the instruments where velocity makes sense, you get plenty of different shots. You have to do your own programming, of course, but there's plenty to work with.Dr. Feelgood wrote:I was under the impression that Doru's ethnic CD was purely oneshot samples? Doru's DVD has nearly as much material as the $300 QL samples you're looking at, and the quality is at the same level. Even if I was collecting $300 and $400 sample sets, I'd buy Doru's DVD for $30. For the price of Stormdrum, I could hire some Senegalese drummers...

Thanks for all your suggestions. It was very helpful!
I already own EWQL Symphonic Orchestra but hadn't installed the EastWest sampler CD. That version has a few examples from StormDrums.
However that lead me to a another solution. I ended up using the plain orchestra bassdrums from my EWQLSO silver library. Not exactly what I wanted, but close enough.
Thanks
