Midi channels in sequencer help

I've been using Bandstand in Live but I can't figure out how to play other instruments that are loaded in different midi channels other than channel 1. When I set it up to the channel that the instrument I want to play is on it won't work or it'll still just play what's loaded into channel 1. What's interesting is when I play the standalone I can switch fine between the different instruments in each respective channel just changing the midi channel on my controller. So the problem lies in the host settings but I don't know what to do. Anyone have this problem before and find a solution? Thankssss for the help.
