You take care of the instrumentals, and then let some of us audition for vocals via online mp3 exchange. :D

Here's my contribution to this lovely Genesis revival thread:

Recorded in one day without cosmetics to become a sequel to the "Duke"-album ...
Sorry for any technical inadaequacies: all instruments played by myself but I'm only a keyboarder ...

Thanks Frank. Some cool parts. Nad, I guess the coast is clear to post some of your stuff in here too! A Genesis extravaganza.

2006, year of the Prog.

Sure, why not? That'd be fun. Pretending to pretend to be Genesis!

Sounds fantastic! I loved it. :)

Squids wrote:Okay, here is the full version of the long lost Genesis-esque jam. ;) Enjoy! Warts n' all. http://www.sonicreality.com/squidscorne ... idsjam.mp3

It is 7 and a half minutes of wankchops and 10megs so... be warned!
Hey Squids...I've been away from the computer for a few days and what happens? This thread fills up with TWO MORE PAGES of Genesis fans coming, like you said, "out of Hybernation"! ;-) ;-)

Man, I gotta say, I really love this track...definitely a showcase for SS2. I use the Melotrons in SS2 a lot (strings, choirs and ESPECIALLY the flute). Great stuff. Is the "squids collection" a lot different/better or just more of the same?

Thanks again for sharing this!

Thanks for posting this Squids, I just listened now it's very cool.

OK thanks! Well yeah, there is always our new years
greeting
off of our news page. You can see/hear a snippet of the new S&B track as it starts with me playing some B4!

Cool, I'll check that out!

Yeah, Squids Tron Collection is not to miss. It has most of the tron needs covered plus a lot of rare esoteric stuff. It is some people's favorite thing we've done especially because we left in a lot of noisy, quirky, hum, warble, wow, flutter stuff in a few sections that we normally wouldn't but... that IS the character of those things so to some people it is beautiful! (I am one of those people who appreciates such a contraption).

Actually, we're putting together a collection of rare instruments that will be the Squids Tron follow up (but more than just trons... in fact, even the Squids Tron is more than just trons and has Jon Brion's pump organ and a Jaymar toy piano etc.). The follow up will have some CRAZY stuff on it like a Baldwin Electric Harpsichord, a Novachord tube synth, Rheem KeeBass (yes, the same company that makes vacuum cleaners!!!!), Clavioline and we just sampled an Orchestrion player piano. It is rediculously out of tune but sounds AMAZING! You can hear the mechanical noises everywhere (to the point where some people would hate it! haha). But, it is fantastically flawed and charmed. In fact, I have a funny surprise for you guys. I will post a clip of that one... but one that will make you laugh.

Anyway, the ideal set up for prog or alt rock is:

SampleTank 2 XL
Sonik Synth 2
Squids Tron Vol. 1
Studiophonik (which is a virtual band plug-in coming out and will have all of the guitar, bass and drums to sound like Genesis, Pink Floyd, Police, Beatles, Stones etc.).

Either that or a bunch of our refills in Reason as another option.

I got the M-Tron VSTi, so I'm afraid I won't need your Tron Collection - BUT:
How can I be informed when you release that NDV-stuff and Studiophonik? And will it be within the funds of a hard working ordinary folk like me?

Post

Actually, the Squids Tron has a lot of stuff that M-Tron doesn't such as a bunch of rare chamberlin, optigan and orchestron sounds. But, anyway, Studiophonik and NDV is not cheap but also not that expensive. Less than hiring Nick and the Lawnmower studio! (we recorded it at Kevin's old studio actually which was a trip itself for both of us... last time we worked in there was over 10 years ago).

ta for the postings Dave. I liked the use of Wot Gorilla as a base..

I liked the LDR avi as well. Having covered this myself, I was kinda sad that Nick couldn't really make up his mind how to play the piece.. On Fragile/Yessongs Bill plays 5/8 against the 4/4; whilst with ABWH and on the Union tour, he goes for a less taxing 6/8 figure. Nick seems to do neither, just playing random 5 or 6 semi-quaver figures. Alas! It's good to see Jon having a laugh tho'. LDR is one of my favourite Yes pieces, along with CTTE.

Out of interest, have you tried out NuBiLE at all. I'd be interested to know what you thought about it.
