Mmm, very nice! "Spheres" is particularly fine.

Well, I couldn't resist trying the demo version. I think I'll be buying this in the longer term, but not right now.

Two things stood out: first, the selection of presets with the demo is way too small to help form an opinion of capabilities (in the hands of experts). I'll try my luck tomorrow to see what a nitwit can make, of course.

Second, I was experiencing -- but not enjoying! -- very variable volume levels between voices (even in the same family, such as leads). :? Odd.

here's a quick mp3 of the few spectra patches i've made so far.
first spectra patches

there would have been more but i eventually had to force myself away from spectra this morning so i could make it in to work. (damn that whole 'day job' thing. :x :hihi: )

hey thanks, y'all...I wasn't sure if additive/subractive were two paths to a similar result or whether the results could be -in fact- quite different. I've heard the "metallic" quality and wasn't sure whether it is endemic to the additive sound or whether it was the way the particular synths were coded, configured etc. Spectra seems like it can be nice and warm though, as well.

I think this is going to be a sound-designer's paradise.

Hey Ugo...GREAT PATCHES!! Are you planning on doing some banks for Spectra? How would you say this compares to working with WNAdditive? BTW, I really liked your patches over there.

thanks! :)
yeah, i do think i'll probably release at least some spectra patches. im just having too much fun working with it.

im glad you dig those patches too. :)

i havent spent enough time in spectra to give a proper comparison just yet, but my initial impressions are that im finding spectra to be easier to program/use and that spectra seems to be capable of a more full bodied sound. of course, i've yet to determine whether spectra can get as marvelously cold, digital and alien as WNA can. (i find that to be one of WNA's more endearing traits.)

as far as features go, WNA can do some things spectra cant (more modulations, independent resynth of harmonic and formant, etc.), but on the other hand, im finding it easier to create even basic patches in spectra.

i think, in general, WNA is probably better suited for more experimental sound design where as spectra may be better suited for more traditional sound design. ...and as such, they will probably prove to be quite complimentary.

A couple of new mp3s are available on our web site:

Aggravation by Peter Christiansen (Spectra + Drums)

Spheres by Metal (Spectra Only)

Spectrahouse by Metal (Spectra Only)

Enjoy :)

Nice patches! I love hearing what others have done with it. I'm going to probably spend a lot of time deconstructing the presets others have done just to see how they differ from my own approach.

True - but Torben, you should really think about boxed versions.
A minimum order of boxes is something that would add up to the production costs, and on price.

A distribution would mean at least two other parties also earning money from it.

So below $300 is probably not possible.

They cannot still sell for prices we see online now, and think distributors would accept that.

And seeing what people consider expensive in these days, you don't get the volume sales with a $300 product. For that money you really start ask yourself:

- Do I really need this synth?

Keep it online stuff and possibly make deals with Cakewalk and others to make bundles.

This synth really sounds beautiful.

Thank you rouge and all others for your great comments :) I will see if we can get some more presets to show in the next demo version, but the last days before the release was really crazy work-vice so the demo presets was just a fast selection of some of the more than 650 presets in the full version. We still got 1200-2000 presets from sound designers to go through and categorize for later releases.

Thanks
Torben

Sounds good. Any comment on the very dissimilar volume levels for the presets? I tried a different host -- eXT -- and still got the same effect...

I was only able to play around with this for an hour or so the other night but it really is a musical synth, a player's synth. I think it will really find some champions among players who need lots of very tonal and pleasing bread-and-butter sounds. And the patch management system will probably appeal to many who are on stage and need that type of thing to be clear, fast, and dependable. Good job Torben!
