I have posted the same Topic on cubase.net, but have not received any replies. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Ah well. Best of luck with it!
One hint that might get you more suggestions: Try editing your original post in this thread so the subject line describes your problem. Something like "'No more mixer channels' error, Cubase+Absynth" or similar. The more specific your post's subject line, the more likely you'll get informed advice (as opposed to my ineffectual guesswork). :-)

I am not that familiar with Reason, looking at it now there doesn't seem to be any option for me to limit the channels it uses.

Hmmm, sorry, I can't help any further. When you open 5.1, what is the name on the mixer channels? If they are all Reason (or some related name) at least you'll know it is Reason/Rewire that's causing the problem. I suppose the other alternative is to uninstall Reason, and try then.

They are not labelled Reason/ReWire channels, so I don't think it's anything to do with that program

Hello,
I bring good news - I have finally resolved the problem, thanks to Ian B's lil' help: I quote "The problem I had with P5, was even when not using P5 and Rewire, it still took up every mixer channel in 5.1. Cakewalk eventually released a fix where you could limit the number of output channels it used. If you can do this with Reason, your problem is solved."
I had a look at the ReWire page in Cubase and besides the 64 Reason channels present there was also a long list of channels used by Storm 3.0. Even though these Storm channels were not inactive I had to get rid of them somehow to free up some channels. Good thing is, as I don't use Storm that much, I have had to uninstall the program. After that went back into Cubase and tried to add Absynth as a VSTi and I got no error message. Hope this helps anyone else who has had a similar problem!
