Sigh - you're right about hiring Nick ...
On the other hand - for me as a private person it is almost impossible to spend $ 180 per package. I'm afraid I won't be able to buy then although I'd love to. What a shame. It would have been great to have Nick at home

I liked the LDR avi as well. Having covered this myself, I was kinda sad that Nick couldn't really make up his mind how to play the piece.. On Fragile/Yessongs Bill plays 5/8 against the 4/4; whilst with ABWH and on the Union tour, he goes for a less taxing 6/8 figure. Nick seems to do neither, just playing random 5 or 6 semi-quaver figures. Alas! It's good to see Jon having a laugh tho'. LDR is one of my favourite Yes pieces, along with CTTE.

Out of interest, have you tried out NuBiLE at all. I'd be interested to know what you thought about it.

That's because we had no rehearsal and we were all winging it. It was pretty stressful actually. I had to cut tunes at the last minute. But, there's no way we were going to miss doing at least this one with Jon so we just did it without ever playing a note together as a band let alone trying it with Jon. Jon came by for a rehearsal 3 hours earlier but only had a little bit of time to do it and that got taken up completely by Yngwie Malmstein or however you spell it.

But, I would have liked to have heard it in 5/8 over 4/4.

If $180 would have been tough then I don't suppose the fact that they are both over $300 each makes it any easier. ;) Oh well. You can always pick up Sonik Capsules for less which are also good. We might have a stereo version of Nick's library for around $129 street. We'll see.

Squids, my kitten Luray is now perched on the desk, gazing earnestly and intently at the monitors as they play selections from "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway," and it's not Genesis performing if you know what I mean.

Good stuff.

Yes.

In fact, yes yes.

What are all of your favorite Genesis tunes? Which from Trick & Wuthering would you like to hear for example?

nothing quite like listening to a bit of Genesis on a cold winter morning. ok, 40 isn't all that cold and I imagine it's not too bad in Miami.
tbh, I missed Genesis in their prime years as I was stuck in a southern rock phase at the time.

I mostly seem to prefer the mellow tracks on both, although I don't expect that to be a popular opinion.

From Trick, I most prefer "Entangled", "Mad Man Moon" and "Ripples", although the rest are pretty good, too (with "Squonk" being my favorite of the remainder).

And I guess I most prefer the mellow stuff on Wind, too, with my favorites being "One for the Vine", "Blood on the Rooftops" and "Afterglow" (although the live version on "Three Sides Live" is much better). "Your Own Special Way" never did a lot for me, maybe because the vocal performance always sort of struck me as a bit out of tune.

But you asked for specific standout tunes, whereas I think these albums sit best from start to finish. :)

Yeah, Squonk and Entangled are some of the best. It is great to see so many people into Genesis. More than I thought on KVR actually. 8)

I am cooking up a couple other pieces to post soon. Some covers and some in the style of Genesis.

Ready for some fun? Okay. Imagine if Pete never left Genesis or if Tony kept all of his old keyboards (and they just kept stacking up to form a wall around him Cheesy ) and you couldn't tell where the 70's ended and the 80's began... here is a fun hybrid of all of that done for pure smiles. A tribute to Genesis sounds spanning several decades. Hopefully some of you will get a kick out of it. This was made and mixed rather quickly and I had to edit it down for now. Maybe I'll finish it at some point. Although for what I don't know. This gets the idea across at least. The "what if" factor (even though it would never have happened to sound like this... but, for a drink and a laugh!). A little bit of "Intruder" and a split second of 9/8 thrown in for good measure. ;)

Hope you like it. No worries if you don't! lol. Check out Devon's morphed old Pete/Phil vocal at the end.

Also, in case you missed it before, here is another fun tribute piece (the full version from the one in teh first post in this thread). This one is supposed to be like a virtual long lost jam/outtake from the mid seventies. It would have been more 74 era if I didn't use the CP70 in there but I couldn't resist (love that thing). Anyway, it is all just for fun and for Genesis fans to enjoy. Here: http://www.sonicreality.com/squidscorne ... idsjam.mp3

That was fun!

Which drum machine were you using for the intro/outro?

And pardon my ignorance, but who is Devon?

That's one of the analog kits on Sonik Synth 2. Most of it again is Sonik Synth 2. The drums are from Studio Drums Capsule in ST2.1 Devon is the singer on the tune!

No, I caught that much. :)

Just wondering if he's a friend/band mate/employee/all the above, etc.

I liked the 2nd2ndHome by the sea (maybe 4th HbtS (2^2)?)

I do understand about the Anderson gig.. Time is always a problem with that sort of thing. It's a pretty good good take for no rehearsal (bit of an obscuree Tull reference there..:hihi:)

Devon is a friend I met through Jason. We did a vocal sample session with him for Vocal Textures refill and Sonik Synth 2 (along with a lot of other different vocalists). He has a Gabrielesque/Collins voice so he is naturally one of the people I may call upon for this side project thing. However, I have a lot of side projects and this one is one that is more for just the fun of it than any (I actually have screenplays and original music I've been working on for a while too).

The Anderson gig, honestly I was glad we even got through it as well as we did with no rehearsal. Plus it is a little different which is not bad either. I LOVE Bruford's drum tracks on Fragile though. Nothing can touch it really. But, as you can guess, this was more of a novelty and honor to just play with Jon. We were going to do it even if we had NO rehearsal (and that's exactly what ended up happening).

It is a bummer because we were going to do the same thing this year and I was possibly going to play with Jerry Marotta and Tony Levin this time... and Jerry was going to sing something from the Lamb as well. Oh well. Maybe another time.
