King Tubby-esque "eq-filter" as a vst?

So...
It's been said that King Tubby "modified his board to have steeper slope EQs - they act more like steep sloped HPF/ LPF filters than like a typical board EQ". Has anyone of you vst-makers here ever thought of making a vst based on King Tubby's use of "filter"?
I've been trying out several plugs, but none of them (except for maybe PSP Nitro) comes close to the magnificent sound of Tubby's.

HI
Actually I think they were 'band-pass' - the whole thing about 'dub' being to bring out frequencies within what is already a narrow band - so at the mixing stage you have a guitar and you want to get funky ... there is a narrow range here so by sweeping around that range and boosting at certain points gives you a varience that is pleasing.
You can achieve the effect with various eq's or filters - it would be nice to have a VST that specialised in this tratment though.

Yeah...
Considering how many Tapedelay-freebies (based on Tubby's use of delay in the 70's) that exist, there ought to be someone who's up for creating this type of filter.

HI
In all fairness unless you are a SERIOUS dub lover you might not have heard this effect (or many other types of effect that reggae producers were coaxing out of their equipment) - I have been listerning/buying and making dub for 30 years and to be honest some of the stuff coming out around 74-78 has some serious usage of phaser/flangers/filtering/eqing ... what Lee Perry did with flanging should be documented and put into a bible of what not to do with your equipment!

Yeah, Perry burned up the Black Ark...it's a damn shame considering how prolific the music he made in that studio was...

For everyone who isn't familiar with the specific filter-FX that we're talking about, listen to the "King Tubbys In Fine Style"-sample (particularly 0:00-0:14 & 0:41-0:44) on this link:

Isnt hitting on the reverb-unit also a little dub-trick? I wonder how a vst could emulate that...

yeah, it sure is...however, it would great if someone first managed to make a decent springreverb-vst before they start thinking about emulating hit 'n thunder...

Agreed, seems like a spring is harder to emulate than a room somehowUrb Sergeant wrote:yeah, it sure is...however, it would great if someone first managed to make a decent springreverb-vst before they start thinking about emulating hit 'n thunder...
What are u using for vst-springverb now? (if any)

i'm using various spring-impulses found at noisevault...they sound ok compared to vst's that try to emulate springs...
