What are your favorite Horror Films/Film moments?

Don't discuss the films themselves, and if you must discuss anything, please discuss SOUNDS and LINES from these movies, nothing more, short and sweet.

Cheers,
D

Edit: Why I am asking:

If you consider all the spinoffs of the Kompact Sampler, I'd like to so something ananagous to that, but foucsing EXCLUSIVELY on a given horror film and samples from each for a series of Film-Specific sample players..

This will be 'special Reaktor samplers, but I can make all of the sample maps available in Kontakt format as well.

Each sampler will be unique, in other words.

edit: I'll be indexing a list of which films I have already completed or am in the proccess of sampling. Please eliminate the following from your suggestions. Also, if you have something you can upload to my server, please PM me and I'll give you the l/p for the area.

I think 'The Grudge' - the ghost that's killing all the people has this terrible sound she makes which sounds like a last, rasping breath someone takes combined with a kind of creaking of an old door... hard to describe but it's certainly effective.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is an extremely effective horror movie, in part due to the abscence of any significant background music in the set-piece scenes.

Listening to a girl relentlessly screaming whilst being being placed on a meat hook is pretty gruelling for a viewer, especially without the respite that a backing track might offer. An other scene that springs to mind is the introduction of leatherface as he whacks his prey over the head with a mallet. We're stuck listening to the sounds of a guy convulsing with his body scratching on the floor rather than anything more substantial that would help alleviate the anxiety of watching something quite so blunt.

More recently, I think the short dissonant hook from the original Japanese version of "Ring" is a great horror sound.

Oh and the guttural scream of Donald Sutherland et al. that have succumbed to the Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

The ring.

Where a decaying little girl killed a man in broad daylight.

Any of th original films in the Romero 'Dead' trilogy.

Lots of 'Dead walkin' the earth, no more room in hell' kinda lines.

Any old crazy coots in horror movies, particuarly in Friday the 13ths warning the stupid kids they are all doomed.

Cool ambience, creeky, creepy sort of sounds in TCM.

The Alien squeels and screeches from Alien flicks are cool.

There's definitely lots of stuff to work with from horror films. I'll drop some more as time passes.

Well not broad daylight as it was inside, but in an apartment with pretty much glass walls and everything was well-lit. Too many horror films set the scenes to night settings to help induce fear. That's why I liked the ring. It didn't cheat that way.

I really dislike this soundtrack its completely over the top, but it suits the melodrama of the film, in fact, I don't really like the film - thats probably why I dislike the soundtrack..etc...etc...

So many good sounds and music in this film. One of my favorites: the sounds preceding the attack of the guide dog at the blind pianist..

Oh, The Exorcist of course has a lot of suitable quotes, and nifty throaty demonic growly-stuff.
