One that functions essentially the same way as in say... FL? Where you can just tweak the knob, and then "assign last tweaked knob to controller"?

if you mean for the console (mixer window), then yes, it does.

but not for the transport.

you can control the transport with MMC, though, using (what is called) a Control Surface.

I mean for VST's.

Like say I want to adjust the filter cutoff value without having to go through the increadibly arse-f**ked process of individually assigning them through CC in cubase.

Alright, let me explain in a slightly different way.

Does sonar have a feature that allows you to easily assign parameters in a vst to knobs and sliders on your midi controller keyboard? If so, what would be the process?

I'm asking this, because I've grown more and more frustrated with cubase's lack of features in this regard.

EDIT: Okay, I've downloaded the Sonar demo... I know, I should've done this in the first place.

EDIT 2: Sonar does not have a simple midi learn function.

Post

Alright, I just want to be able to control my cutoff and resonance in softsynths in a multitrack host. I can't figure out how to do it in Cubase SX3. I can't figure out how to do it in sonar 5's demo. I don't want to draw filter sweeps, I want to play them. Is that so much to ask?

Can someone just explain in a clear and consise way how to assign knobs from a midi controller to say... the filter cutoff in synth1, in either sonar or cubase?

EDIT: Well, now I know how to assign stuff to knobs in cubase.

as i said, the Remote Control (with Learn) is available for widgets in the track and console views.

no love for vst widgets, though.

Hi :)
Have a look at this...

And this...

Read the fourth paragraph in the "Sonar or Producer" section.

Hope this helps :)

hi lowkey,
yes, but that is for controlling params via envelopes and recorded automation.

i think the_nihilist wants to use the knobs and sliders on his midi controller.

Has 'MIDI learn' function for VST paramaters all in one lil' window.

That's the kind of assignment (and simplicity) the OP wants.

if you have 45 dollars get XT you can use it as your host or as a plugin. Both ways allow midi learn...

I second the suggestion. EnergyXT VSTI combined with Sonar ie EXTREMELY powerful, and gives you a step sequencer, arpeggiator, chorder, MIDI learn, etc for ANY VSTI.

For these purposes it won't take long to learn... it certainly beats switching hosts, if you've already committed to Sonar.

In Sonar if you have an external controler hooked up and that controler is selected for input on that midi track along with the softsynth and that softsynth knob supports remote control you right click the knob select midi learn from dropdown wiggle knob on controler and blamo.

Also you can edit the parameter you recorded in Piano roll view/controlers view at bottom with the pencil tool TO FINE TUNE the recorded values. I find drawing controlers a much more precise way of editing these values but That's just me.
