Personally I love the look of the CME UF series, they seem brilliant. I'm just concerned about the MANY reported problems with them over on the official forum. I mean, paint peeling/rubbing off?..I'd be horrified to slap down 160 notes for a UF6 and then find red paint on my fingers after twiddling the pots.
I've narrowed my choice down to either the Novation Remote 61, Korg Kontrol 49 or Alesis Photon X49. I'll prolly opt for the Novation Remote, as I want to learn how to play the keyboard, too.
First thing's first, but not necessarily in that order!

I have used my keyboard without any issues for three months!ras2a wrote:I've been reading on the CME forums of reported issues with stuck notes and even crappy paint that easily peels/scratches/rubs off the case?
Just wanna know if these were just issues with the initial batches and if these have now been ironed out?
thanks

That's cool, I suspect that some of the earlier 'big' problems will have been ironed out now. Just the 'stuck notes' issue that seem's to be hanging around, but I read that is something to do with driver issues. Again, it obviously doesn't affect everyone.musicmaster wrote:I have used my keyboard without any issues for three months!ras2a wrote:I've been reading on the CME forums of reported issues with stuck notes and even crappy paint that easily peels/scratches/rubs off the case?

Tell ya, I'm having such a hard time choosing a midi controller. I really like the CME's and could buy the UF6 AND a Behringer BCR2000 for under £230, which would be cheaper than getting a Novation Remote 61. However, would this be a better option?..I dunno. I also really love the Korg Kontrol 49 - It looks beautiful from the vids on the Korg site. If only they did a 61 key version eh. So, to sum up, I need 61 keys, but plenty of controls for software control, as I will be using soft synths etc exclusively. Do I go for a cheaper board (UF 6 or similar) and the BCR2000 or do I get the all in one solution of the Novation Remote?

I have tried several keyboards but can´t find any keyboard that has got that good feeling to play at as the CME:s. I got real disapointed when I tested one of the Novations. Well yes they have more controllers but isn´t it more important to find a keyboard that´s got a good keybord.ras2a wrote:That's cool, I suspect that some of the earlier 'big' problems will have been ironed out now. If I were you I would play around with the Novation and CME because it´s very individual what is good and bad. I prefer the CME.
Look out for hardwareconflicts between keyboard and controllers! Read the forums and try to find any who has got a similar setup!

I've installed the UF cme editor 1.0 beta and the simu driver, without even wondering about the safety of my system.
but everything works
now, even without usb connection I can create/store/swap cc templates.

Hi Miscmaster, have you had any issues with the CME, and what is the overal build quality/feel of the controls, keys and case like? Does it feel 'plasticky' like so many cheaper midi controllers.musicmaster wrote:I have tried several keyboards but can´t find any keyboard that has got that good feeling to play at as the CME:s.
I may well end up going for the CME UF6, but it's a bit wide (deep, I mean) for my desk - Although I have just been designing myself a new desk today, in AutoCAD.
thanks

The keyboard has got a very solid feeling. The sliders are a little bit plastick but the knobs feels good they are covered with rubber for good grip.ras2a wrote:Hi Miscmaster, have you had any issues with the CME, and what is the overal build quality/feel of the controls, keys and case like? The keys feels realy good to play at and is fullsize. The Pitch bend and modulation wheel reakts fast.
The keyboard has got after touch control, it´s very unusual for keyboards in this pricerange.
You can buy the UF6 mLan with a audiointerface built in the keyboard. The audiointerface is a Terratec Phase 24.

Excellence! Good thread!
I'm getting the UF7 in about a week to replace a dead a but in its day a trusted old roland d-10 I've had as a master keyboard. I've liked its response to death but I can hardly wait for the UF7 having tried the action once. In all honesty I doubt there's a similarly featured but better controller on the market right now.
I agree about the sliders and knobs.. a bit flimsy, but the keyboard itself makes up for it. And the transport section is solid and handy.
Suppose I'll file my report here when it arrives.

I've checked about 5 different online stores and none of them have the UF6 in stock... Does any body know where I could get my hand on 1, I have a gig coming up in the next 2 weeks and I really need one.
Thanks,
Kenny.

on a global forum it would *seriously* help if you specified where you're from...xuanvu wrote:I've checked about 5 different online stores and none of them have the UF6 in stock... Does any body know where I could get my hand on 1, I have a gig coming up in the next 2 weeks and I really need one.

What is the difference between all these key actions. I know (basically) there is 'synth', 'semi-weighted' and 'weighted'. Is the CME UF series really that much better feel than the rest (in similar price range)?
Appreciate any input. I'd love to get down to Sound Control in Manchester to test some of these boards out, but I aint got time at the moment.
cheers guys

That question dives somewhat into subjective territory.ras2a wrote:What is the difference between all these key actions. I know (basically) there is 'synth', 'semi-weighted' and 'weighted'. Is the CME UF series really that much better feel than the rest (in similar price range)?
Some people like the SY99/SY77/DX7 type keys action (there's nothing quite like it), some people like the rather generic roland or korg action etc...
Then there's CME with the weighing somewhere between really stiff DX7 and generic roland.
With all the good brands YMMV.
Most of the novation and m audio keyboards feel and play cheap. Although all of manufacturers use plastic, these keyboards will even play like cheap plastic (a bad bad thing). In fact you can pretty much count on the fact that most cheap controllers will be plasticy-unreliable-easily-breakable crap.
I haven't yet found a good piano type action anywhere (much better to just play real pianos when that's a requirement imo), and it's rather difficult to program drums and percussion on fully weighted keys. A seriously bad example of weighted keys is m-audio, and a generic example would be korg/roland. Then there's yamaha stuff with just about realistic weighing. But then there's a LOT of differences even with real pianos so...
anyway, there's a few points there to ponder on.
