I mean I'm used to the big stereo, ya know , 4 speakers blarin away,
I download a bunch of songs and play them on my big system downstairs to at least get a sense of what the thing really sounds like(much as you can do with mp3's)

but I'm noticing alot of replies are often how it sounded in cans
are headphones the new medium I have to get used to

how many only listen to kvr tunes through headphones

maybe our music has to be more precise, or maybe its gotta be just more earcandy friendly

trying to come to grips with this new reality???

i have headphones cause wife won't let me have speakers.

No. Headphones will never become the medium for monitoring tracks by yourself or others.

I never take mix advice to heart from people who said they listened with headphones.

I realise headphones won't become a track monitor,
but , are people getting good headphones and not bothering with, that new stereo..
will headphones ultimately change the music we make

somewhat yes.. for awhile.. the ipod users will go deaf, then things will return back to normal (deaf through loudspeakers).

hearing aid companies will learn to love apple...

that said.. I dont own good speakers because I'm not in the environment where they'd be useable.. so headphones it is!

one day I want some nice, spiffy ones.. I plan to splurge when the time is right

(something at which look forward)

I don't know what to think anymore.

If everyone is mostly listening to their music on headphones through ipods and whatnot, maybe we should be using headphones a bit more in our mixing decisions.

I like my Sennhesier HD 600. Still they are better when
used in conjunction with good monitors.

in the early days of recording and monitoring, we never wore headphones,
now all of a sudden I'm lookin at these expensive phones, thinkin maybe, I need better ones,,,,confused

does anyone remember the bonefone?

My guess is somethimg less huge and intrusive but based on similar technology will replace consumer headphones...

Who cares? In the end shouldn't it be about the 'music', and not absolute pinpoint ball sweatin' mixing?

It is about the music. We want it to sound good instead of just thrown together, it's good enough kind of stuff.

Anyway, what is "Its about the music" supposed to mean if not how it sounds.

hmmm what an interesting way for the RIAA to line their pockets again...being able to sell the headphone remix and the speaker mix....remastering of old music, twice the sales on new music...now remastered for portable systems...

a poll would probably reveal a scary fact,
I think more people are listening through cans rather than a stereo or studio monitors,
I hope I'm wrong
I know theres times when folks aren't going to be able to have a stereo, but, it seems more and more like the majority of people don't

are we becoming a headphone society?
