Anybody know what's up with ESC? Their purchase page has been undergoing "maintenance" for quite some time. I understand that they are to release
a new version (last communique - August), but I would
buy the latest version anyway. I've tried the demos
of various converters and found this one works best
for me.

It comes and goes. I think it goes when the guy doesn't think he can answer the emails quick enough. I was waiting ages to be able to buy it last year.

Email the author if you want to buy ESC. I did that a while ago and he sent me payment options right away.

I put a mail with some questions some weeks ago and have not heard anything yet.

They seem more into selling drugs over the net instead.

I don't particularly want to reward this behavior. What alternatives are there to ESC?

Post

Thanks folks.

I've e-mailed the guy asking to buy and we'll see what happens. I should think he'd have an interest
in taking people's money for his product.

Awave? (It also does wusik.snd format)

Yeah, I hate to beg the guy to sell me his product, but for me the alternatives are inadequate. While I'm sure Awave is very cool, I need something that converts to Sampletank format or at the very least from several proprietary formats to wavs.

Never could get the CST to work right for me. Kept crashing. ESC is great in that it tells you if it
can't do something rather than trying it and then
crashing.

Interesting, I was just looking into ESC recently myself and wondering the same thing. The buy link was working last november.

I think ESC is the best value of the converters; especially good at setting sample loop points.

Count me as one of the people that is really interested in this program, would have bought it last week, but am completely baffled that someone would develop a program, 'market' it on the net, and then not even reply when people want to buy it. If they won't respond to requests for purchase, how well do I think I could count on tech support?

Man, this is frustrating...

I've got a copy, and I'm happy with it. It caused no small amount of consternation when it first was able to create/read SampleTank format files - it could create samplesets for ST1Free, for example, which was supposed to be limited to specifically coded samples only.

I suspect that the reverse engineering issue (exemplified by EXSC) is part of why Miroslav and Halion3 have dongles - to provide data security as well as program security.

I'm using the demo version which limits conversion
to 10-bit quality sample rate. Really not that big of an issue with some samples. It also won't convert
wavs to any other format, but I'm not sure if the "real" version will do that either. Dougsyo?

In any case, the demo version is far superior to the other demos I've tried and it really bugs the hell outta me that I can't get the real deal. Makes me
wonder why there aren't more converters on the market. I know of 4 - Chicken Systems Translator, CDextract neither of which worked well for me, Awave which doesn't do what I need it to, and ESC which I cant' buy. Aaargh! Thoughts?

Well, there is a single guy behind EXSC, which means that whenever he cannot handle EXSC related activity for any reason, there may be interruptions. I did some emailing with him a year ago and he certainly wasn't unresponsive and didn't seem like a person that would stop replying to emails or handling sales just like that. Wonder what's happening to him, hopefully nothing wrong.
