You defended well against LunchMoney. He caught me off guard in the heat of battle. But he knows he cannot win this one. He knows it.
I will rally the rest of the troops against the Tracktion army. The forces of phz have also gathered against us. We should survive the heavy bombardment overnight and defend the city at first light.
Our ownership of Tracktion gives us insight into their workflow. We already know their battle positions. We have seen this before on the KVR battle ground. Words that slice, destroy and shatter the shields of reason. But that day is not today!

No Name will yet survive the attack from Lunch Money, we will see victory on this thread! It will not go down in flames!
Actually this thread has been flame free and considering the respect for different views shown, it is very welcome to see. It would be nice if it was always this way.
Thanks for the tip. I still use Tracktion for collaboration amd certainly would like to use the Mackie plugs again.Lunch Money wrote: Yes, the preset save issue has been fixed for a dog's age. True I have had plenty of help from Tracktion users in the past. All this talk about Tracktion reminds me of the almost legendary period of Jules reign. This guy was ready to take them all on or what! T2 became almost mythical before it even came outI'll take my fellow Tracktioneers, feature requests, debates, and all, over any other user base on the planet.A truly interesting, inspired, and helpful bunch.
Tracktion remains a great idea and a more than capable sequencer. Maybe no name may yet go for it. Whatever works for him is what matters which I am sure we agree on.
I wonder if Mackie have something up their sleeve for NAMM. No name may be better off waiting until after that, come to think of it.
It's only two weeks away or less. Maybe Mackie have Tracktion on a 18 - 24 month development cycle. It will be very interesting to see where Mackie take it.
Interesting to see the Rack PDC issue come back up again. I think using more than one on the same track causes a problem with PDC (corrrect me if I am wrong) so how can they be used without causing latency? I stopped using them ages ago.phz wrote: ... there ARE some situations where certain rack setups will cause PDC issues but on the whole (and as long as youre fairly methodical about it) racks can handle PDC pretty well ...

Hey No Name...
do you really want impartial advice? You've stated that you just got a new DAW and something about Win98... so I'm a bit confused about whether your DAW is actually setup. In any case, the first issue should be getting your computer up an running on the OS you plan to run. Attach all your audio gizmos... and make sure it's solid... then take all the advice compiled in this f**ked up thread with a grain of salt (including this post)... download the demos and feel out which one works best for you. Don't rush! Just keep making music the way you currently do (Acid + FL)... but keep experimenting with the hosts you are considering on the side. With a little patience and lots of time... any host will begin to reveal it's weaknesses. I can guarantee this as fact... then you'll start to see what you are really going to have to deal with. Deep down inside... every host has something that might make you want to pull a lemming.
(tangent) What do I mean by pull a lemming?
example... The first note bug in tracktion drives some people crazy... but for me, it's not even remotely close to being a show stopper. There's a nine page songs thread in the T forum which would imply that people still make tons of great music in spite of this. However, with Live.. I can't access parameter numbers higher than Live's 128 parameter limit. Obviously there are tons of great songs that were entirely produced in Live, but this is a real issue that literally stops me from using a few of my hands down favorite VSTs. Suddenly Live becomes a lot less useful for me. Uhhh... I would much rather perform intricate routing using eXT or Tracktion's rack filters over track busing in Live anyday; however, that is simply the way that I work. Different strokes, different folks. I'm just giving you these examples just to illustrate that the host thing is such a personal choice... and based around a very personal level of comfort... I get real tired of these threads because one man's heaven can very well be another man's hell. Some people like big ass cars cos they feel safer... I like small cars because they can be very agile and easy to control in emergency situations. Who is right? I used to participate in this non sense (I guess I still am
).. debating stupid shit like intuitiveness... but the fact is, we all don't think a like (and I wouldn't want to think like all the weirdos around here)... we should be grateful that a vast assortment of hosts exist which can cater to everyone's insanely opinionated and f**ked up needs.

In my impatience I've purchased many hosts and played with lots of demos for extended periods (being a lemming swimming for land). I own Tracktion, Live, FL Studio, Podium, Energy-XT, Mulch, Plogue Bidule, and Orion Plat (v5 something.. it's old)... Sound Forge as my wave editor. I use Tracktion, eXT, Mulch, Bidule... and flirt occassionally with Live. I've tried everything under the sun... and will echo the importance of doing your due dilligence! find out the flaws in the hosts of interest up front, but don't let any info revealed discourage you from trying said software.. because any issues effecting one person simply might not impact you in any significant way.Lemming populations shrink and swell depending on how many plants and berries are available. You've got your point. I just wanted to hear opinions on tracktion, but I guess after a while it was more of just me wanting to hear of peoples experiences with their hosts. I plan to try out all the demoes soon, and perhaps in the time that I trial all of them i'll save up little by little for whichever I choose, as well as have a little left over for something else! Anyways, what I mean about my DAW is that right now i'm just on a pretty old, cheap custom computer that we bought a few years ago. Hardly a DAW as you might imagine. I went out got a controller, a new PC and pretty soon i'll be buying a control surface, a triton, perhaps one of those Korg Drum controllers (the pd16? something like that). I'll be treating this extra room acoustically so it isn't so damn boxy and all. Technically setting up my own project studio where I plan to produce/record/mix for "clients" (people around here in Columbus that are looking for a more affordable way to make their music, but without the big ass price.) Mostly hip hop obviously.ModuLR wrote:Hey No Name...

I don't get it. I don't recall ever wanting anyone wanting to do anything other than what is best for them. Hence I thought he should try the Tracktion demo.
Far be it for me to respond with an actual opinion on Tracktion to a thread titled, "How is Tracktion working out for you." I can't figure out hq's personal vendetta on the subject, but I'm sure not going to let it stop me from having an opinion.
Anyone who thinks I myself have an "agenda" beyond trying to get people to see all sides of a story needs to re-evaluate what I'm saying, ignoring headquest's attempt to cast my character in a certain light. Of course, I'm a loyal Tracktioneer, but that's not an "agenda", that's a personal preference and I like to share my insight.
In this case, I felt that one side was being misrepresented by headquest, who has a tendency to call out so-called 'show-stopping flaws' that are either not truly flaws (but rather, personal bugbears) or are not necessarily show-stoppers. Sorry for trying to keep No name's options open when people are trying to shut them on him. I don't NEED to talk about Sonar's benefits or Live's benefits because that's already being done, and by people who know better. I know Tracktion, so I talk about Tracktion. It's not only an acceptable, but an expected form of discourse. When I recommend a Tom Robbins book to someone, I don't list all of the other humourists who write books that the recomendee might enjoy. I'm talking about why I like Tom Robbins so much.
No name, I was only trying to help you, so I don't know what this army thing is about. And I wasn't looking for anyone with their guard down. If anything, a few pages ago I was getting worried that your opinion was being influenced by strong rhetoric to make a choice, when I'd rather see you make your own choice.
Headquest, I really don't know what you're talking about regarding christianmusicmaker, either. I respect him and I would be curious to know which part was an attack on him.
I was letting it go despite my bewilderment, but you really seem to have some sort of issue with something I said. I'm honestly stymied as to what I said as some sort of ugly personal attack on him. Besides that, we're all capable of taking care of ourselves, and it's unkind of you to use him as an excuse to vent on me yourself.
I really don't get it. It kind of makes me confused, actually. I don't even know what to say about it.
Thanks to Mod and anyone else who seems to understand the intention of my posts.

LM, we all know you have an agenda with Tracktion, didn't you mention once that "Tracktion will rule the world" or somesuch?
Fortunately for you, it is very on topic to do it in this thread; and unfortunately for the others, mentionning other host here is off topic no matter what kind of twisted non agenda each poster is trying to hide under.
Now let's have a proper host war please and put a stop to this reasonable individual nonsense.

Oh dear, do we have to do this Lunch Money...
1. No Name said several pages ago that he had decided not to go for Tracktion and specifically invited people to chime in about other hosts
2. Quote a few people have dared to criticise Tracktion on this thread, and not just me. In terms of personal stuff though Greg, I have received two personal messages/emails from friends who thought you deliberately jumped on me on the other thread where this discussion has been taking place.
So let's get real, eh?
3. All I did anyway was ask one dodgy question because I was slightly irked. Hardly a capital offense, surely? And within a few minutes I came clean and appologised anyway. It's really no big deal. Get over it.
4. I never made out you attacked christianmusicmaker - just that you were a bit antagonistic with your silly judge/jury comments. And you were
5. In terms of having it in for Tracktion, I am merely a disatisfied customer resonding to the question "How is Tracktion working out for you?" Exactly the same as the other people who have pointed out a few of the many problems with Tracktion. I guess that link to the first 100 or so bug report threads would have done the same job, but would have lacked the personal touch
. As somebody who bought (and recommended)Tracktion I am disappointed that it does not live up to the claims that some folk (including you) make for it. When others are considering buying it based on one-sided information, I think it is a morally sound judgement for me to provide a note or warning and balance.
6. Unfortunately Mackie do not strictly tell the truth in their advertisements for Tracktion. For example a year ago they advertised that there would be various Mackie effects included that simply aren't there, even now, a year later. It is therefore necessary for current disattisfied customers to draw attention to that fact in the hope that the company can make amends. You may not like it, but in our somewhat unscrupulous consumer society that is how the system works.
I guess we all wish that companies could be consistently honest, and that reviewers could be truly impartial. But there it is.

Greg! Come on I was just joking! Seriously. We are all simply making our suggestions known to someone who asked for help.
I have absolutely no problems with your comments. My guess is Headquest respects your views as well.Don't worry about it Greg seriously.
With so many views being thrown around on KVR there is always a risk of someone being offended or misunderstood.
Again my comments on battles and defending the city well...come on Greg. Defending a city at first light?
Exactly what has that got to do with Tracktion, you or No Name?
Threads like these can get a bit too serious hence my comments about defending against you and the forces of phz. Sounds like a hollywood blockbuster! But has no relevance to this thread in reality. Smile Greg.
Peace.

Yea, i'm just joking. No hard feelings towards anyone. I know everyone has their hosts selected, and they promote it simply because it works for them. This is what I wanted, to just simply hear what all of you have to say about all the hosts. It's allll good

Cakewalk Sonar 5 – Waveform Preview
This is one of those apparently small – but extremely useful – features. Click on the Attachment to see Waveform Preview in action.
When you click on the Waveform Preview button for a Bus or Soft Synth audio track, Sonar draws the waveform as you play the sequence. Better yet, it turns red wherever there’s clipping (circled in yellow in the screen shot)
Just read this on the Sonar 5 review, sounds hell of a lot useful. I'm sort of feeling sonar. I can't wait to demo.
