I was just listening to the whole album today and would really like to know.

Apart from live stuff, some organ sounds seem to be from a synth, other close to real, synth lines - what synth?

My guess is he's been using the same sounds for years - trademark I'd say (not a critique).

What do you say?

Difficult to say as what goes on behind the doors at Paisley Park is anybody's guess. Oh what I'd give to witness a tracking session there :)

Renato Neto is credited with the Fender Rhodes on the CD, and live he plays a combination of a Kurzweil and Yamaha Motif along with an Open Labs Neko.

Prince's keyboard on stage is a Kurzweil too, although his piano's are custom jobs, usually a strong shell over a Kurzweil keyboard.

I'd imagine that there is a lot of sampling going on too. Prince was once on the verge of releasing a 7 disc sample CD set about 6 years ago, and then suddenly withdrew it. That would have been worth it's weight in gold !

Whatever it is that he uses, he's a genius and his work is a joy to listen too. I saw him again on his last visit to the UK on the One Nite Alone tour and a tighter, funkier band you will never see. We're getting withdrawal symtoms here in Europe, so lets hope 2006 see's his return.

Once you've done with Musicology, his new CD "3121" is out in the Spring. The forst single "Te Amo Corazon" is available now via your usual digital download store and via The NPG Music Club.

I've been a Prince fan for years, and man, was I pleased when he released Musicology; finally, something you could sink your teeth into! I hope the new album keeps up the inovation.

And I never heard of that CD sample-set. He really should release it...but we all know of his history of closely-guarded secrets and vaults of music that may or may not be released (Black Album?). It would be really wild to play with sampled instuments that you knew were recorded/played by Him.

Sorry, end of fanboy rant. I have no idea what was used on the album - but Prince is a real computer junkie, I think Mac, so we can assume that he'd probably be playing around with what's available for RTAS/TDM. Maybe NI? Oh, I think he's listed on Spectrasonics' site.

Yeah, there was a brief ad on the old Prince site, love4oneanother.com, some years ago. Then, just when I decided I could afford the $400, all trace of it vanished. I emailed the site and they denied all knowledge of it. I then sent them an image of a screengrab I had taken of the ad to show a friend and they changed their story, saying that a decision had been made not to go ahead with the release.

Gutted !

Crazy! Dissavow all knowledge...who knows what reasoning goes on in the mind of the Purple One? :D

Well, it was the site more than him, I guess.

As for what goes on in his mind ? Who cares ! ;) What comes out is out of this world and we are richer for it :)

Totally. I am kicking myself for missing him last time he was in Vancouver. I should pay more attention to tour dates. :(
