How is one supposed to try Cubase???

If there isn't a demo of a recent version (the oldest demo is sx1), how is one supposed to see if Cubase is the program he needs?

I guess the absence of a demo may have to do with the dongle and with piracy? but then, again, how can I try this program and check it's what I need, it works perfect with my system, etc...?

I find it, at least, peculiar.

They remover the SX1 demo too, there is only an old 'cubasis' available.

Cubase sucks anyway.
Try SONAR... it rocks.

shameful, at least that's my opinion. unless there's a very important reason for this...

Gypsy, precisely I was very very interested in Sonar; I was about to buy Sonar; but then I tried the demo and found that I can't make it work successfully. I have lots of latency problems with Sonar; I've tried WDM and ASIO drivers of my terratec dmx 6 fire; maybe I don't know how to configure, but the truth is I have no problems with FL Studio in this matter but lots with Sonar.

But the reason why I wanted a demo is not only to try the program per se, but to try how to configure it perfectly for my system, cos as I say I've had problems with Sonar's demo; no matter how low or high I set my latency, I get crackled sound. And my pc and soundcard work very well with other software, I can tell you. Probably it's my fault, but I just can't make it work for me so far.

Probably they think there are enough "demos" around, at least for people crawling the web or else go to a retailer and watch a pro working with it.
Also there are online tutorials at auxbus.com, among others, that can give a pretty close idea of what SX is capable.

What´s up with you Sonar fanboys??? hacking SX threads, Are you dongle jealous or what??? :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:

Yes, of what SX is capable yes, but not of what SX (or SL) is suitable for me and my pc and my workflow and...

I actually think this is rather negative than positive for them in terms of piracy.

I know it took quite a bit of tweaking when I had the DMX to make it work in sonar. I recommend tweaking the DMA buffer in the driver applet. you may also want to adjust the PCI payload(I think that is wat its called, the setting that determines the number of bytes each data transfer uses) and see if you can tweak it there.

I had to get rid of the card as I had latency, crackling and all kind of issues with it. That was compounded by the fact that each revision of the driver would fix one thing and break something else. But anyway, if you need to keep the card for now, doing those tweaks got me pretty good WDM performance in Sonar.

its unfortunate there are no longer demos, i expect entirely down to piracy.

but you can always go down to your local music store and get a proper demonstration, which would likely give you a better view of its capabilities anyway.

. How many times does the poor guy need to reiterate his point? That point being : -
He wants to see if Cubase SX suits his machine/hardware. Patently there's no value at all in him looking over someone's shoulder at a music shop.

Someone hit the nail on the head earlier
though - Steinberg feel that there are more than enough(ahem) 'demo's' out there already, and Most people know how to get hold of one.
