I am less than thrilled with the new version of FL studio FL6. :(

FL5 works for me flawlessly on my computer 2ghz Dell lappy with TurtleBeach Advanced Micro USB sound device and ASIO4ALL drivers. :)

FL6 crashes, locks up, and makes awfull howling sounds with the cpu spiked permenently at 100%. Been through the 'try every one of 4 million various sound setting permutations' routine to no avail. :(

My reports to techsupport 'dissappear...' so much for tech support.

Imagelines respons so far in the forums has been to point fingers at the customers for using ASIO4ALL.

not to side with them, and no it's not the customers fault, but most crashes are infact hardware related...it took me a long time to learn that...however, please don't laugh...but if you can switch the turtle beach to a different bay...sometimes soundcards get effected by the card above them...especially if its next to a video card...:)

I agree with you Hink, but that's not to say that FL6 isn't "twitchy". I've had a lot of problems with it and have now given up.

But I'm not upset. There wasn't a lot of good new stuff in version 6 for me and I've got better things to do than trouble-shoot a twitchy software update. I'm now happy staying with 5.02 which has been 100% solid for me.

But I do think the weight of user comments here and on Looptalk/techsupport does indicate that this has not been ImageLine's best release.

Post

please remember I don't push FL to the limits...I run B4, dfhs, and vsampler...that's about it...I render dry so it's no doubt that I might miss a lot of the problems as a result. But 6 did address something I really wanted so I'm happy...one does have to wonder though how IL will react if they react...

I would have to say that I agree with this statement, so far.... I dont code so I could'nt begin to guess what's wrong.
I just think that it might be 2-3 more updates before we see a robust version of FL6.

But that's cool by me, I'm still blown away by FL5!!!

That's not true. Image-Line have in many threads stated that they are continuing to investigate issues associated with all ASIO problems and the change from 5 to 6.

Indeed, FL Studio 6.0.5 included some changes to help people with latency difficulties (Safe overruns switch and a change in the default mixer thread priority setting to 'Highest').

Finally, the latest ASIO4ALL thread was a reminder to people to use native drivers (first) if they have them. There was no suggestion this was a 100% cure.

If techsupport have been deleting (moving?) your threads you must be ignoring the post policies, shouting in all caps or being rude or something, because they just don't delete stuff in my experience.

Carb.

...and just uploaded a public beta on Loop-Talk 6.0.6. :P

Wowy Zowy!
6.06 already.
Gota be a record for number of update
patches within the 1st month of release.

am I the only person who wasn't happy using ASIO4ALL?

to sort out my own problems I ended up getting a tascam usb audio/midi & using the drivers supplied.

Post

Does Discovery work with FL 6.0.6?

Thanks.

imagine how the people who bought FL for the first time in GC after FL released it there first....yah think they're real impressed with FL....but I bet a lot people bought the lifetime free upgrades for the box version just out of fear...like I said before, here is a public relations nightmare...

Personally after releasing the box version first and not releasing the it to their existing customers and reading the comment on looptalk made by one of the more prominent staff members that all their "really good customers" have xxl they might start thinking about what good customers really are. Remember I bought two versions of FL producer, but I didn't need everything in xxl...I was insulted tbh.

They obviously are lacking in several departments and with each release there seems to be more and more nightmares. It's too bad too, because they are gonna start giving "free updates" a bad name. I know they will come up with 10,000 excuses...but the truth is IL does not seem to have good quality control and a sadder truth is I have seen more complaints about customer service then any other 5 companies put together. Image Line needs a new image imo, but I'm sure they will again tell us how many customers they have and how great they are. Which when you break it down they do make a good application and they do have a lot of customers...which means customer service has more customers to aggravate. It seemed at first that they only cared about their "really good" customers. But one has to wonder, perhaps they should stop leaking out info on the updates to get the customers drooling.

I do know that a survey once done about customer service across the board with any company proved that when people are happy with a product the tell far less people than when they are disappointed. I can see two companies that may see the repercussions of this negativity...ironically IK and IL...:hihi:

But then last year KVR voted them number one...when you're on the top there is only one direction to go. I've seen it as I am sure many others have with many other companies and the good news is someone else will fill their spot...but as loyal a customer as I have been (oh wait I'm not a really good customer because I didn't buy xxl) I am very turned off of IL as a company...Love the software, but I don't like the direction they are heading...what they should do is offer up free direct wave to all those who have had to put up with this mess...though I still wouldn't want it...;)

I think FL 6 is slightly buggier, and have had a few "poofs" where the app just dissapeared. I still rather enjoy it tho, and will use it on occasion. I mainly use Sonar 5 these days tho, so its not as frustrating to me if FL crashes. FL worked better for me with it was just a softstudio and not an all encompassing multitracker. Its becoming a bit kludgy IMHO.

I do however think the new plugs and features are pretty cool, I especially like EQUO and Fruity reeverb2 and wish they were Vst.

Post

I still use FL daily...but that doesn't mean I like what I see happening....I too wish the pluggins were VST, but if they did that I'm sure they would charge for the vst version

It's working for what I need, my son hasn't even upgraded yet and like him...I'll just wait until it seems they have all the bugs fixed...I have other things to do with my time then chase FL fixes...;)

Instead of versions with extra plugins etc, I'd like to see a stripped-down version. Just a rock-solid VSTi host. No demo songs, no trial plugs, no cheesy samples, no rewire, no "run as a vsti" mode etc etc

It seems new apps go through the stage when they are seen as simple & robust precisely because they are "undeveloped". Then five or 6 development cycles later they become as bloated & buggy as most of the other old apps.

It'd be nice to see one of these companies go the other way see how much they could take out. Then with the defined "core" more or less static, development would be only a continual bug-stomping exercise until military-grade reliability was achieved :)

I so agree with you, I delete the stupid things I don't need anyhow...;)
