When refering to a board what would 16-4-2-1 mean?

I assume it inputs outputs and such, but I'm not sure on the details.

Usually it is something like, 16 track input channels, 4 buss groups, 2 aux sends, and one stereo main out. Unfortunately, thats not really standardized between manufacturers.

I would take the 1 to equal mono
so I would read it as 16 in, 4 auxes, stereo, mono, but manufacturer's and marketing is just plain strange.

no the one is one return....you use a pair of inputs (or 1) for the second return....

I'm primarily interested in the tape. I just want a way to record without having to turn my computer on.

Any cheaper reccomendations. I have a decent TEAC dual cassette 1/4 innch recorder, but I wanted the less noisy 1/2 inch.

I don't need the 8 in out. Two would be sufficient.

You know Hink, I've specified mixers for about 35 years now, and I find I always have to refer to the manufacturer's liturature to 'get' what the hell the numbers might mean.
I'm getting so bad at it that the last time I specified consoles I got these pieces of crap
what a waste of money.

I could be wrong...but I never sold a mixer without returns in the specs...I don't remember selling any mixers with a mono out that wasn't a send...but hey you're the pro...I'm just me...

I'm curious as to who still makes tape (and personally I wouldn't own a tape machine unless I really really wanna get into alignment and stuff. Believe me, tape machines are HIGH maintanence things that are better off left in history.
Another computer is cheaper and even ac 97 does a better job then any tape machine imho)

okay how's this, the 1 is odd, 4 bus two returns 16 input/insert channels

Studiomaster 16:4:2
16 XLR preamps, they sound pretty clean and 'solid',
16 balanced 1/4" inputs,
16 inserts or direct outs if you use an unbalanced cable,
the greatest thing on this mixer are the EQ's !
highs, sweepable high mids and sweepable lows, you can boost or cut
from 25hz ! amazing to treat a kick.
The mixer is built in the UK and i love brittish eqs, this mixer sounds alot better
than a mackie vlz1604 and this one is alot cheaper,
four subgroups with a decent amount of headroom, 2tk out, 3aux out, 2 aux returns,
you can put verb or any fx on the master, sub1,2,3 or 4 so its possible to track
with reverb and record the clean signal,
these small consoles can be found in lots of homestudio's but i've also seen lots of
Studiomasters on live PA's,
nice machine, its got a real pleasant analog sound

if you zoom in though the 2 are left and right and the one is mono and it's 4 sub groups...

Mixing board syntax ???
