A host that you can use for sequencing?? If so, what type of sequencing?? I'm afraid that from the only host that has simple piano score notation is SONAR, which is quite expensive.

no, no, not a sequencer. something simple that can import a midi file and show it in "standard notation," that archaic form of notating music before trackers and 16th-note buttons on drum machines. something like finale but about 99.437% simpler... maybe i'll just get the demo of noteworthy composer....

Magix's Notator - if you can find it. I've also used Voyetra Digital Orchestrator Pro (if it's still around and/or acquired by another company) for this type of use.
Both are inexpensive.
Sibelius is ok, but I'm not sure it's worth the price.

Don't ask me, I just play here.

You should also look into Score Writer 4. Very straightforward and easy to use. Its a scaled down version of Overture 4 and hosts 2 VST instruments and soon will host one VST effect.
Its $59.00 for download.

It is exactly what you asked for here. It is also free.
I am not particularly fond of the Noteworthy composer software, but the free player is cool.
If you want cheap notation software, midisoft is my personal fave.
It's not all that attractive to look at, but it is very intuitive, at least for me.
But many swear by Noteworthy so don't take my word for it.

I'd second NoteWorthy. You can use the composer software demo to import and export MIDI files you just can't save them as native NWC files.

I currently use Finale Printmusic.
I've previously used Finale Notepad Plus (now Finale Songwriter), Noteworthy Player (didn't like the composer demo), ScoreWriter 1 (when Cakewalk owned it - didn't upgrade it when it wouldn't run on XP), and Voyetra MusicWrite (didn't like the workflow).
I believe that other than the current version of ScoreWriter, none of these will host VSTI.
