Bidule Standalone and VST allows you to automate the processing mode of each plugin, telling it to process, mute, or bypass.

Also, "Renoise skips processing effects and instruments wich dont produce any sound for a while (for example when not playing notes on it for a while)."
Though, you can "disable the auto suspend mode individually for each VST instrument"
