Hi,
When it comes to midi, I'm sort of a newbie. I was wondering how I can set the midi Controls on my keyboard to do various things in cubase.
For example, if I wanted controller number 21 on my keyboard to change the LFO in some VSTi...how do I do that?
I'm using Cubase SX 2 and an M-audio Radium49.

Something to do with the generic remote Conbtrol I believe?
It'll be in the manual & also there may be some info in the bas files.
I do remember that it seemed a little finicky & long winded to set up when I saw it being used.

Generic Remote is totally f**ked up in SX2. It still is partially in SX3, but at least some things are working as you'd expect them to by now.
However, the main culprit: The settings you could do are saved *globally*. So, load another song, with another synth loaded into the same VSTi rack slot and all your settings would still be valid for something that doesn't even exist anymore.
The generic control is for something globalized, such as when you were using things like a hardware fader box, allways controlling the first 8 audio channels or whatever. It's defenitely nothing for songbased stuff.
In addition, all the movements made through that generic remote assignment wouldn't be recorded as MIDI data but as automation data only - which IMO is a clear drawback when it comes to things such as controlling filter cutoff.
In the end, better get something like Energy XT in addition, load your VSTis in there and each and every plugin parameter will be MIDI adressable.

I do remember that you could create these little panels on the left hand side of SX (sorry it's been a long time) some kind of midi control thing & link them somehow to your vsti's (if you had a list of which controllers they utilised) & then control them with your controller.
Sorry if i'm vague - but I can't really even remember the terminology - I just remember a mate having this issue & sitting with him & creating these little kinds 'scripts' that allowed him some level of control over certain vsti's.
It was pretty much arsing about with text files & shit though (if i'm even remembering it correctly).
Actually I think it may have still utilised the GRC, & was in SX1 - a workaround to do with deficinecies in the GRC & controlling vsi's (I think).

The midi "learn" functions...are they available in Sampletank, Groove Agent, Korg Legacy Collection etc?
Energy XT is something I will have to check out. Never heard of it.

Dunno about the MIDI learn in the ones you mentioned (I think the Korg Legacy collection is doing fine), but Energy XT will bring full MIDI learn to all your plugins. The demo is fully functional, you can even save your work, you just won't be able to reload anything. At 39 Euro it's a steal, seriously - it's even coming with a sampler (capable of loop slicing), offering easy layering of plugins, etc etc.
If MIDI assignment of plugin parameters is what you're lusting after, there's not much better things around. And no, I'm in no way affiliated to them.

Energy XT is increadible... the only issues are with midi latency, the same problem I've been having with cubase.
