I've enjoyed the diversity of the tracks ever since we started getting contributions for this project. UTM, I think, did a good job putting the track sequence together so that even if you don't like a particular genre, you can appreciate each song for its own merits. Each song flowing nicely into the next, even if the two are miles apart stylistically.
VanGreco's This Can Never Happen Again and Bluedad's Paradise are both excellent tracks. VG's still sends shivers up my spine, and Bluedad's just has such a great melodic sense (I've had weeks with it stuck pleasantly in my head). Soniccat/Annode's She Walks The Clouds At Dawn and Rsmus7's Flooded are both incredibly rich ambient tracks . . . HanafiH and Parallel Worlds, Dan Tootill, Benedict; so many great songs!
And the incredibly organic and honest humor of Col.G's Mighty Time gets me every time. Love the blend of cynicism, tragedy and hope in that piece.
Yep. Job well done!

Thanks. A very good friend of mine who should know better told me he thought I need to put a warped beat behind it . . .Parallel Worlds wrote:thank you emdot! your track is great too and one of my favourites! it really reminds me of edgar froese's finest moments!emdot_ambient wrote:Blah, blah, blah

It was 4 different strings and one flute in M-Tron. I ran the strings through a filter plug-in, automating the Freq Cutoff, but I can't remember which one right now (more than likely it's Betabugs Audio's Crayon Filter). I know I used some reverb as well (probably Classic Reverb by Kjaerhus Audio) and I did some EQ shaping and gentle compression on the master channel using Kjaerhus Audio's Classic EQ and GPP1, respectively.Parallel Worlds wrote:no beats! it is perfect as it is!!emdot_ambient wrote:Thanks. That's about it. I was really trying to find that Epsilon In Malaysian Pale sound and apply it to my own composition.

in 'Paradise'? this was done long before mr ray appeared.Hink wrote:bluedad, do I hear mr ray?
I'm glad 'Paradise' is being warmly received, but honestly, the credit for the magic in this tune goes to Horse (wherever he may be these days). I wrote the tune, supplied vocals and a raggedy guitar track, but he did the rest.

Okay, the only comment from my mum was: "You should have written some lyrics".

Okay, so now for the real answer. I got some of it wrong above.Parallel Worlds wrote:btw, what machines did you use for this track?
The piece was actually composed in 3 sections, each rendered to audio and then mixed together. The three sections were all using the following M-Tron presets (I'm using the preset names as seen in the program, I have all the tape banks and don't know which ones these come from as all the presets are in one big folder):
Megatron Strings
Cello + Strings
M300 Strings
STR Section
Flutes
The strings were processed with this FX chain:
Crayon Filter==>KarmaFx Deelay==>GlaceVerb
The Master Channel had GPP1==>GlaceVerb
Once rendered to audio, all the tracks were run through this FX chain:
Classic EQ==>Classic Auto-Filter==>KarmaFX Deelay==>GPP1==>GlaceVerb
Like you really wanted to know all the dirty details.
