I have a Studio Projects C1 condensor mic. Its about 18 months or so old. I came to use it and it has just stopped working. :?

No physical damage at all, and it was working when I last put it away.

Any ideas on this? What could have gone? Can it be fixed?

Gutted

Help?

Have you checked that it's actually getting 48V?

It was fine the last time you used it?

The last time you used it, did you unplug it without first turning off the phantom power? This time, did you plug it in and then apply phantom power?

Post

By the way, not to jack your thread, but what is your opinion of that mic?

1) It's a great mic. That's why I'm gutted.

2) No. It is plumbed through my behringer mixer. I always turn everything off before plugging/unpluggin the mic.

**And yeah, I've tried other stuff through the behringer, its all ok **

condensors are quite sensitve, the slightest bang can end their life as well as other things...though I would check the cable as well...;)

tough call...imo it's a budget mic....by that I mean it can be had for under 200usd...I'm not sure the element (likely the problem) and labor would be all that cost effective...but I would check to find an authorized service center in your area and get an estimate...but don't be surprised if you opt for a new mic...:)

Get your point. But to me, a Behringer B1 at £60 is a "budget mic". The C1 cost me £150

I called them up and they said that it would be covered under warranty.

I used to repair this sort of stuff, and other broadcast/recording electronics.

The capsule is the expensive, critical bit, the rest of the mic circuit is fairly simple and the parts are usually available.

The symptom of a bad capsule is usually degraded or distorted sound.

If a condenser mic just 100% quits (no output) it's most likely a simple fault in the electronics or an internal connection. If this is indeed the case, a competent technician should be able to test and repair in under an hour.

Good luck!
