my hard drive (fat32) started behaving weird and renamed ALL the files and folders on it as MSDOS names (blabl~1.mp3) for blablabla.mp3 and so on
I'm on mac and the disk utility can't fix this
is there a softaware that will hlp repoair the FAT
I know FAT is obsolete but it was the only way my pc would see my iTunes Library on this firewire drive
any hints on any soft mac or pc to help, cause i dont want to manualy rename like 3000 files and maybe 5-600 folders so itunes finds songs
can i simply reinmport all these onto a new drive since the ID3 tags seems fine?
or did i lost all my life's worth od bought cd' that i ripped ?
please any help appreciated
(i even took the keyboard home not to annoy anybody with the _
thanks

http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php? This would really be the place to ask as it primarily deals with audio formats and related apps. Just get an account and ask away.

Hold on i'll do a quick search of the site and see if any apps names appear.....being a PC user i hasve't got a clue what's out there for Macs (although when i did google the choice seemed to be pathetically little.)cyberpink wrote:Sorry, your e-mail address is banned. Having a think about this......why don't you just raname them from the tags through your PC? there's a lot of free apps that do that.
You could try this though http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/23955
Have a look through here too http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx/cat/multimedia

Copy them onto another drive, put it in/on a PC and use Flash Renamer. That handles MP3s, it should be able to name them based on the ID3 tag:
"Extract & rename with Mp3 ID3 tags to tidy up your music collection. "
http://www.rlvision.com/flashren/about.asp
It's shareware, so technically you can use it for free, it just has a nagwindow when you first run it.

I say put them on another drive.. because rarely will something happen with all of the files getting renamed without a major Windows error.. or a problem with the drive itself.

That's the price one must pay for using iTunes and it's proprietary structure. Don't dismay though, you're in with a big crowd, so you can all cry together.cyberpink wrote:will_take_weeks_to_do_casue_iTunes_want_

Winamp doesn't sell low quality DRM'd music though (or does it?.) I've never been stupid or gullible enough to buy any.Jonny X wrote:Can't you just ditch iTunes and use winamp?Reverse Engineer wrote:That's the price one must pay for using iTunes and it's proprietary structure.
