Hi there,
Does anybody know how to sample audio from a Playstation 2?

I have an E-Mu 0404 sound card, so I'm guessing I have the required connectivity; it's just the know-how I'm lacking........

Thanks for any help,
Cheers,
Scooner

Just hook the two tulip plugs (the red and black one) to your computer and run a programm that's able to record sounds. It is possible you cannot plug the cable directly in your computer, but it's not hard to find a cable that starts with female tulip plugs and ends in male jack...

I suppose it may depend on the AV cable you have connected to your ps2<>TV. You may be able to run phono cables of it into your soundcard, or, theres an SPDIF connector on the back, you may need to enable it in the setting of the PS2.

Thanks guys,
DJDiaper, have you tried this yourself?
I'm worried about damaging the soundcard, if the signal from the PS2 is too strong. Is it safe? Am I being foolish?

ive done this many times with my sattelite box...i broke off the little tabs around the jack then bent a slightly so it would make a solid connection (i plugged it in without bendin it 1st n i couldnt get no connection and i tried 3 types of rca jacks((workin for the sattelite company was great)) so i put a little bend in it and it worked perfectly).tho it comes out recorded really fuckin loud no matter how low i put the mic volume on ( since i have it plugged into my mic jack)

Because you cannot just plug audio into a mic channel. But hooking up your playstation shouldn't be a problem.
I hook everything up trough my mixer, that way I am sure never to get a signal that's too hard.

But you can also connect the headphone connection of your television to your soundcard. That way you can put the volume of your TV very very soft and graduatly give it more volume.

By the way, I don't think you can damage your card if the sound comes in too hard, but I don't know enough about sound cards for that.

Thanks again for your input folks.
The TV headphone method is looking favourite at the moment, since I know I definitely have the cables/plugs required!

I sampled some sounds off a playstzation last year and got a distorted signal on one channel and a weird (pseudo-)silence that peaked that totally peaked the meters on the other
...anyone know what I was doing wrong?
Marco :?

I usually hook up the light pipe and run it through the minidisc d/a... that way you can sample from dvd's without that copyright control and you get a volume control thrown in too. works 4 me anyways.
