Krim's threads are the only thing that keep me at KvR these days
they always turn into a good ruckus of flase information exchanging.
all drum n bass is shite unless I wrote it anyways

That covers about 60-70 percent of hip hop, but there is a large coningent of it that goes well below 85bpm. Even as far down as 60bpm. And you'll find a smattering up to about 105 or so.CypherOne wrote:agreed with breakbeat. hip hop is typically 85 - 95 bpm.
RnB pretty much falls with in the same range.

(insert done to death hoover bass line... yeah it still hasn't changed, they're just using other than square wave and sine oscillators. maybe they bought a few viruses)
BO SELEKTA!
(insert boom-khack. forget even amens or any kind of breakbeats, that's so nineties. we only really just want boom-khack.)
BBBOOOIIIIII!
(rinse and repeat, and add several other layers of hoover and boom-khak from construction kit sample CDs. don't forget to sample your favourite cult movie, can't have a d'n'b track without that.)
dear me. I just remembered why the scene is in such doomed state. Americans, please have mercy on us!
you forgot this:

I used to like a lot of the early 'jungle' stuff, ratty ratpack, micky finn etc. - with that 'half-step' feel to it, slow breakdowns & all that.
I remember it used to be about just having a dance, smoking a weed & chiiling - you could speed up or slow down your dancing - it was all good.
I stopped really being interested in DNB when the nights started to fill up with coke-heads wanting to run on the spot whilst shouting 'focken choooooon!!!!' rather then the 'headz'.
Having said that I have a friend who mixes & produces a little DNB & he's played me some interesting stuff recently.
DNB isn't really a 'genre' (IMO), it's more a 'meta-genre', with lots of allied subgenres so it seems wrong to judge it as a whole.

The hoover isn't a bass.insert done to death hoover bass line
You could do variations of that spiel on every genre out there; at least get your facts right.

actually hoovers have been used A LOT for bass...rounser wrote:The hoover isn't a bass. Look, admit it, you don't know what you're talking about, and read something on an internet forum somewhere and are trying to look trendy. Well, you're busted - time to find a new thing now.insert done to death hoover bass line

Most of the time that's reeces, which people confuse with hoovers. Proper hoovers have to undergo layering with a sub or something to sound bassy (ala mentasm) or they sound like shit when pitched below treble - that's been my experience.actually hoovers have been used A LOT for bass...
Now if laughing boy over here had started complaining about reeces, he might have been mistaken for having a clue.
