Where to place BBE sonic maximizer in mastering?

The plugins are limiter, dithering and BBE.

WHatb should be their order?

My guess is dityhering should be performed last (used only when the apparent bit resolution is above 16).

if bbe is after limiter it spoils the maximizing effect (clips appear unless output volume lowered).

so, it looks like the order should be:

bbe
limiter
dithering

Is that correct?

i was never able to hear a difference in an a/b test with this peice of gear. i would recommend 'crysonic spectra live' instead of the bbe, since the result is much more pronounced. they say you should place it before your dynamics processor in a mastering context.

but really, you should allow a professional to master your recordings if they are intended for release.

you're kidding right? It's like taking a wet blanket off your speakers...I can understand someone saying it isn't needed or they don't like what it does...but I question your ears (no offense) if you can't hear the difference. Though I do agrre going to a pro is better.

use the bbe last on your final two track mixdown...:)

dither should be the last process.

im serious, i cant hear it. not nearly as much as the crysonic spectra live thingy. that i can hear.

Refined Audiometrics has something called CLAS NR which is much, much better than the BBE plug and includes noise reduction. Try the demo out.

Seems to me I would go: BBE (CLAS)--->limiter---->dither.

Compression and limiting, dithering(if not built into your equipment's mixing stage), then bbe maximizer or waves l2 - my experiences and post production history.

every book i have ever read, and every engineer i have ever talked to (not including you) has always said dither is always the last process.

do you know how many hardware versions have been sold to professionals, from engineers and studios, to guitarists and sound re-enforcement and then to dj's and house systems? They hear it ...btw I would rather use bbe at 16 bit (if I used one)...it's apt to warm the mix up some...;)

dithering should ALWAYS be last...

any subsequent plugins will add major noise to the sound.

I agree. Dither must be applied during the last stage.

 seems to me dither after mix but master at 16 bit...of course some people may disagree, besides on paper though I do not think that the human ear is going to hear the difference, let alone the average listener. But as mastering is done to attract the average listener one would think keeping the sound as accurate as possible to what the average listener is hearing, and given the fact that the average listener (or any other listener) will not hear it at anything better than 16 bit. I figure I'll just keep mastering at 16 bit...when and if the day comes I release a cd for commercial purposes I would rent studio time to remix songs and send it to a mastering house anyhow...but that's just me...;)
