Yep it sure is. In fact, I think that Audition 2.0 is surpassing the 2 programs you mentioned significantly.

I would say it's a cross between Wavelab, Soundforge & Cubase (excluding MIDI).

Very impressive imho, anxiously waiting for the demo

Ever try writing a script in AA to create cue points??

Just in case... CueListTool can insert cues ("markers" in Audition now!) at regular intervals of your choice, if that's anything related to your requirement. Freeware, and dead handy for many cue/marker purposes.

Indeed, Audition does not attempt to provide sequencer functionality - it assumes you've created your midi file outside the program, then you play it as a finished article if that's part of your overall mix. And even then, to include it in the mixdown, you need to render the midi file to audio anyway. A good many people seem to select their favourite midi sequencer and their favourite multitrack recording/audio editing/mastering program as a separate thing, then have the best of both worlds. I'm not aware of any program generally held to combine the best midi and the best audio features in one package. Would there be any point in Audition trying to add midi sequencing unless the result was pretty spectacular - and how easy would that be from scratch?

I'm personally glad to see the program playing to its audio strengths - but then I'm not really into midi!

Great, thanks for your reply. Can it also replace a VST host like energyXT or Virtual Mixing Console for real time performance?

no...you're missing it....it's a multi-track audio recorder with a very powerful wave editor, it has very limited midi-implementation at all. In fact the only midi I have used with it was to sync...but it does not sequence like eXT...it just does audio tacks...(and has great tools for audio)

It makes a perfectly good VST effect host and can act as a highly configurable ASIO audio mixer with ASIO direct monitoring - so long as you're not wanting to support VSTi or DXi instruments, which it doesn't do, nor will it record midi in any way shape or form - just play back prerecorded midi files.

It is a major upgrade too. Now that I've had time to digest all the small print I can certianly see that Adobe have really excelled themselves with this release. I really think we are looking at Audition being the premier audio recording, mixing, editing, mastering environment on the Windows platform. I hope they will now really market this well into the music recording world, as well as to their video customers, because Audition 2.0 is a genuinely very exciting music software product.

Well now with the mastering rack and the low price, I see no reason whatesoever why anyone would choose Wavelab. But Wavelab 6 is being released in the new few days so we'll have to wait and see
