thanks for all the info, guys. i'll try a couple of over plugins. y'know, as popular as this effect is, you'd think there'd be a no-brainer VST for it, wouldn't you? robot preset, talkbox preset, ghost vox preset, that sort of thing....
It's better to burn out...than it is to um..to um...well, something, anyway...

There is - it's called "Elevayta Clone Boy".

It's just not called a vocoder because "vocoder" is only one of its presets. It goes beyond what a vocoder can do and is very easy to use.

You shameless self-promoter you! :D

Seriously though, the Elevayta stuff is fantastic and some of the most affordable on the market.
Excuse all the blood.

If Space Boy says I'll figure CloneBoy out, I'll sure try it out. His WideBoy widener is my most-used widener, by far and probably my most-used effect. I think the only FX I use more is maybe reverb or compression, but maybe not. What an excellent plug!

- A free no brainer vocoder = MDA talkbox (yes another vote for it) and no is not a virtual talkbox, is just a vocoder with a funky name.

Not only because is free and easy, it also sounds very good.

- What is a vocoder technically? = I don't get a clue, but they sound way cool!
