Does anyone actually *have* AA2 yet? And if so, could you please tell me whether they allow MIDI remote control/takeover of the sliders? All the other new features are great, but I've started doing multitrack audio projects in Sonar, despite it being in my view an inferior audio recording environment, just becasuse I can tweak the mix from a generic MIDI control surface.

any idea if this corresponds to specific CC's? or is it that other language thing now which I am forgetting its name because it was a really long dayOzpeter wrote:I've got it... it works fine with the Behringer BCF2000 control surface in MCSo mode (I've posted a command map on the Adobe forum FAQs) but does that answer the question?

There was a long thread on the AudioMasters forum some weeks back where the interface between the BCF and AA1.5 was discussed - Alanofoz there was I think trying to work out what the relationship between what was being sent from the physical faders was to what happened on screen. The emulation is Mackie Control on both sides - I would anticipate that whatever midi stuff worked with the AA1.5 faders would be the same for AA2.0
But I guess I'm saying something close to "don't know"....

If AA2 has no better MIDI control surface support than AA1.5 - hardwired profiles for the Mackie and the Red Rover only - then I'll probably give it a miss. By the way, Ozpeter, do you have a URL for that FAQ on the Adobe forum? I was just over there searching around for anything that talked about MIDI in Audition, and didn't find it.

OK, I googled and found threads at audiomastersforum that contained pointers to Excel spreadsheets, one of which actually seems to contain the control encodings for the Mackie control surface as recognized by AA. My Kenton Control Freak is massively programmable, so with an hour or two's work, I should maybe be able to build a preset for it. I'd never have guessed that they use channel pitch bend for the sliders!
Of course, if that works with AA1.5, then, again, I won't be all that motivated to pay for the upgrade...

Ah, but AA1.5 has no automation, so although you can move the faders during playback, or set them to a desired level, nothing is achieved dynamically during the mixdown. In the new version, fader moves are memorised and can be edited and replayed, and it's all taken account of at mixdown.
Depends what you are wanting to achieve, really.

So while we are waiting for Audition v2, I'm just playing with the 1.5 demo again and remembering the things that confused me when I had used it last.
So here are 2 little questions...
1. Is there any way to display a ruler where the cursor is so that one may idetify where they are in the project ?
2. Is there any way to snap to beats, half beats, quarter beats ? I only seem to be able to snap to bars.
Cheers

In both edit view and multitrack view you should have a ruler along the bottom of the waveform display showing current location - right click on that to configure both it and snapping. Set it to "fine" and zoom in for fine snapping.

Wow. I didn't realize that 1.5 was so lame. I'd still find it useful, mind you. I like having sliders to be able to simultaneously vary elements in the mix as I'm working on a general mix. I actually often prefer doing automation envelopes "by hand". But having a choice would be cool.Ozpeter wrote:Ah, but AA1.5 has no automation, so although you can move the faders during playback, or set them to a desired level, nothing is achieved dynamically during the mixdown. One incredibly important question, though. If you're using MIDI remote control, does the slider have a "intercept" effect, where the AA slider isn't affected by the MIDI controller until the MIDI controller passes through the previous (saved/restored)value of the slider, or does a level jump to wherever the slider is as soon as you touch it? This makes a huge difference if you're working with a non-motorized surface.
