If I understand correctly, your question is about preferences when to use a channel strip versus using single components? And when to use which? It would be hard to believe that you just bought 2 toys and now want advice on other ones ;).
Actually, I generally curious about what other people are using; which channel strips they might use and why; how they might apply them. More precisely, I'm just stirring up a little channel strip conversation for the purposes of creating a learning environment- not to extract particular information for a strategic reason.

You can call them (Voxformer; TrackPlug4) "toys," if you wish. However, I will employ them as tools. After having enjoyed the results of using Voxformer on some vocal tracks, that were previously done with individual compenets (LA2A; 1176; Realverb), I was very encouraged by the substitution. It was like getting a new brush to paint with, that contributed to an overall effect that was very pleasing to the visual palate, so to speak. At this junction, I'll explore the use of these "tools/toys" and hope that I may find some good grooves. :D

This is true. However, the UAD-1/CS-1 wasn't doing anything for me. So, picking up the Voxformer and the TrackPlug4, will enable me to colour particular aspects of the overall mix, without taxing my CPU into the red. From an artsy standpoint, I'm not looking at one OR the other (i.e. Voxformer/TrackPlug); I looking at one AND the other. (CS-1, eat your heart out! :hihi: )

Would you have grabbed TrackPlug4 for for $37.50?

FYI: I got Voxformer during the Christmas sale. In my mind, I did some pretty good shopping.

Dude, I don't want no scuzzy demo. :-o

I'm looking for the grail, man! Oh well, I guess we're not in tune...no bother!

FYI: I picked up Voxformer and Trackplug, which seem to offer all of the bells/whistles that I could hope for in a channel strip, without taxing the CPU. :D

those are two great plugins. I've tried the demos of both. Just never quite persuaded myself to buy them, though :D

I really liked the Voxformer, when I tried it before the Holidays. It was a bargain at 30% off or so...if I remember correctly. (I believe I paid around $54 or so). However, the TrackPlug is absolutely pristine. It soars! I am very glad that I acquired this baby- no doubt. Whether it's Trackpug4 or TrackPlug5, both are outstanding! Version 5 simply offers more control, but they both soung just as fab! I'd suggest checking TrackPlug4, if you wanna save a buck, else look at TracPlug5.

Trackplug 5 will be $99 in the group buy, Trackplug 4 is $89, and Powercouple 5 will be $149 as well :), so it's worth signing up for the group buy.

Hey, if you can get TrackPlug5 for $10 more (than TrackPlug4)- do it, man! FYI: I got an educational discount, which made my purchase a no-brainer. :D

I'm already in. But: I really should check out the educational discounts, my wife's a teacher and my daughter's a student, and they both need a lot of music software :D

I have tried the Voxformer again and it still uses
a lot of cpu in the settings that I like. :?

Unless I freeze tracks (in Cubase SX 3) with vox that I have it on, it will use to much in my new DAW. :(

Luckily I also have other plugs, that I like on the vox tracks, that dont need to be froozen. :)

Thanks. I never looked at educational discounts for music software, but e.g. Microsoft Office also accepts teachers for the discount.

It will more complex anyway because I'm not in the US. But I'll just have to investigate on a vendor by vendor basis... If I'm not too lazy or too eager to buy it immediately ;)
